| *nod* Why haven't more people figured this out? Poor heartbroken Chris Martin - can you blame him? It's Gwyneth freaking Paltrow. | |
| Regina Spektor – All the Rowboats Lyrics | 13 years ago |
|
I think this is simple poetry, and the reader can interpret more deeply if they want, but I don't see it. To me, this just feels like a simple surreal fantasy, something where Regina just looked at a painting and was amused by the fact that the people in the painting are rowing to nowhere, which is pretty funny if you think about it - most of the people in paintings in action scenes are moving without motion. Sure, it could be her lament about how she might feel a little bit like she's under glass, but I think it's more bemused than annoyed. |

Had Regina not said anything about "shaking in his pew," I'd probably have thought poor Karl was dead. I have no idea whether Regina's being sarcastic or not here, but my thinking is that Karl is basically having a moment sitting in church identifying his own importance, overstating it somewhat (as we have all done). If not for the beeping cars outside, which naturally takes the award to a surreal level, the award might have been some sort of real humanitarian award (like some sort of charity thing). |

| Supertramp – Take The Long Way Home Lyrics | 13 years ago |
|
The meaning of this song is: this person's marriage is failing, and the song uses it as an example to demonstrate the dangers of settling down. He goes out at night instead of going home, because at home he's part of the furniture and out he's the life of the party, and they like him for who he is. Thus the "long way home." He's incapable of forming more solid relationships with women because of his wife; "you never see what you want to see...playing to the gallery." This is sort of an optimistic way of looking at the song, admittedly; he might simply FEEL like he's the life of the party and that he's capable of going out there and beginning new relationships. Thus his "wife thinks he's losing his sanity." However, it's possible the wife just doesn't know him the way that the nightlife people do. Either way, he apparently feels better away from home than he does at home. |
