Modest Mouse – Custom Concern Lyrics | 7 years ago |
@[antrl:19070] I don't feel at all like I fall was a dead giveaway. i love that line. Basically saying the ups aren't worth the downs. they don't balance out. |
Modest Mouse – Baby Blue Sedan Lyrics | 8 years ago |
I'm amazed by some of the simpler lyrics Isaac writes honestly. I realize there is some really clever lines but the ones that get me are the really simple ones, or are they? "And it's hard to be a human being, and it's harder as anything else" I just get the impression that at the moment there was such a disdain for life. It's like saying Yea we are all suffering, but we have it the best and unfortunately everything else has it worse like the deer in the forest getting eaten alive at the same moment you eat that steak/cow someone else killed for you while watching "the game" or some cartoons Love that line |

The Sunday morning for all i care Might mean he tries to be a good person EVERY day kind of taking a jab at the average religious person. and he's not scared of hell because he doesn't believe in god, devil heaven/hell anyway. to backup one of the top comments saying it's mocking religion. |
Modest Mouse – Out of Gas Lyrics | 8 years ago |
One of my favorite modest mouse songs, and probably my FAVORITE downer song. Simple yet perfectly worded, genius. |
The Mountain Goats – Unmasked! Lyrics | 8 years ago |
These lyrics are wrongs The line "And I’m up high, trying to say goodbye" Is actually "And I'm a pie, trying to say goodbye" the song is about a pie... Peeking through the eyeholes (The slits people put in pies so they don't explode in the oven) Seeing the real you (the you who eats pie) And just after midnight When it feels like it’s getting late I will reveal you I will reveal you (as the midnight snacker/pie eater that you are) The song is actually really deep |
Mac DeMarco – My Kind of Woman Lyrics | 8 years ago |
@[Sobertoast:6726] Then again he is in a good relationship from what i read. maybe it was more of the vision of the video director and Mac went with it. |
Mac DeMarco – My Kind of Woman Lyrics | 8 years ago |
@[Sobertoast:5434] argueing against my interpretation= All his songs have that low-fi off tuned feel to them. maybe a genuine love song But I don't buy it... a few more FOR my point= In a box at the end symbolic for a "product" or something manufactured. (manufactured "kind of woman" in his own head) also notice the woman mannequin head at the end right behind the box (points from video in this post) |
Mac DeMarco – My Kind of Woman Lyrics | 8 years ago |
The way the guitar sounds like he tried to purposely make it "cracked" and haunting. it leads me to believe it a melancholic song about people's idea of "their kind of woman" or man or partner etc, that idea always being "by their side" "sticking right next to me wherever I go" I think drag thing is symbolism for he creates his own "kind of woman" in his head and she always there with him. IMO it's a lonely song, but then again MAYBE it's just about a person in drag and I'm projecting myself, I don't know. |

@[fullmooninu:4832] Oh children "remember non-existence" huh? |
Gorillaz – Hillbilly Man Lyrics | 9 years ago |
seems to me to be about cocaine I realize that it's probably not just like "yea bro I wrote this song about coke" but I feel like the thought of cocaine or coke addiction was present when writing this like a real straight shooter 3 lanes full (coke is cut into lines, straight shooter, the straw or bill down the line, also the cocaine will "shoot" into your sinus) I think he tried to take a simple idea of coke, then make an abstract song about it. Love this one has the whole "crashing melancholy" vibe on top of fast "euphoric" very few artists can convey this emotion well, gorillaz seem to do so in several of their songs. |
UNKLE – Follow Me Down Lyrics | 9 years ago |
I think it's about hitting on a girl/or a hookup/one night stand I think the male in the situation is more emotionally vulnerable possibly with not much experience. he wants her to "see the future and tell it to you" shows nervousness and/or lack of experience. the next set of lines get's a bit deeper I love the "everywhere we look we see ourselves" this is a comment on a humans basic psychology of simply ALWAYS seeing the world from their own biased perspective. everything that happens or someone does is interpreted by the individual from their own experiences. I'm not inclined to think in braided sprirals, I know I always wasn't this way. the mental image of strands weaving in and out (braided) back and fourth from a lover to separation she probably has done this before spirals= but never really connecting "is it really worth it" everywhere we look we see ourselves though... so it's like an inner conflict in her mind, she enjoys it but is sort of conflicted like is there really more to it anyway? same with the guy (also conflicted) but in a different way it seem sexual metaphor aside, on a deeper note i feel like the song hits on the whole balance and duality to things in life (as cliche as that sounds) it's not intended to shame sexual promiscuity I don't believe it's not intended to be preachy it's just kind of hitting on a deeper level of a realistic interaction. that's just my interpretation, kind of late and abstract thoughts so I may not have gotten it 100% (i'm just going to post this because I know if i re-read it I will chop it all up and end up deleting this) |
The Black Keys – All You Ever Wanted Lyrics | 9 years ago |
@[number1zero:1630] simplest and most logical explanation imo. |
Girls – Alex Lyrics | 9 years ago |
the black hair and boyfriend part is SO good. |

Modest Mouse – Polar Opposites Lyrics | 10 years ago |
the primer grey part is by far the best line. It's kind of a depressing line where you realize in the end it doesn't really matter while the car talk can actually be taken literally, the color part can largely be taken as a metaphor I believe. basically saying "who cares" It more of a feeling people get in life shared by people in ruts, on the downwards slope etc. Money, power, sex, comfort/security. trying to make something of yourself/project yourself trying to be somebody or a certain type of person. at the end we are all the same thing. we just act like something is special, and we act like the things we want are the things we should want. trying to convince ourselves. |
The Mountain Goats – You or Your Memory Lyrics | 10 years ago |
I think this is clearly about going through withdrawal in a motel (trying to quite some sort of hard drug) the supplies being aspirin and a wine cooler type drink to lessen the negative withdraw symptoms. |
Gorillaz – Tomorrow Comes Today Lyrics | 10 years ago |
every bodies here with me in this "digital" society. and he is obviously bummed out about it. got no camera to see, i think is pretty much exactly what it says in a sarcastic way, take facebook for example, it's like we weren't even there if we don't take dozens of pictures of something or somewhere to "capture" it. we don't use our technology in meaningful ways. he's not all in this world and what people care about. basically this generation is going to be messed up. everyone cares so much about their "image" with their cameras and superficial stuff. "stereo i want it on" not sure if it's mockery of our technology addicted society essentially making him feel like lonely for background noise. or if he's commenting on some music still being real, some artists still being passionate, and the piece of technology he wants is simply something to make him think or feel something. (sorry if it's not very complete, very late when I wrote this) |
