Coldplay – Sparks Lyrics 9 years ago
This is my song for the one that I will always wish hadn't "gotten away" although we are still best friends. Sparks are impossible NOT to see...

Andrew Bird – Are You Serious Lyrics 9 years ago
First of all this album is wonderful..! I am hoping someone adds my favorite song soon, Shoulder Mountain. However, here I believe is just a fun track about if someone is serious or not about their actions. He seems to be saying he's there and ready for anything but are you?
Roma Fade is also great..sigh. Genius.

The Wood Brothers – The Luckiest Man Lyrics 10 years ago
I think this is about someone who battles depression. People say he's the luckiest man, maybe because they are either encouraging him or to them, his life seems quite nice. But to himself he's constantly thinking of ways not to lose. He doubts himself a lot. He is almost jovial about how people says he's the luckiest man. If you, as most people have, gone through depression you know no one quite "gets it" and it can even be laughable at times.

Wilco – Hummingbird Lyrics 10 years ago
This song speaks to me as someone who feels more deeply than the average person, or at least it feels like I carry that curse. Often times it's as if the person has moved on so quickly and you are left freeze frame. I think certain people want to be remembered- they know they're not mean to be kept, but they want to remain an echo in your life. At least I find myself in these situations where I imagine people I have loved picturing me frozen in the moment they last told me they loved me. It's a joy and a burden to feel too much.

Wilco – Hell Is Chrome Lyrics 10 years ago
It doesn't matter if he's talking about heroin or not, although he most likely is. More importantly, is that the lyrics speak to anyone who is numb to this world and feels out of place. If you are at a point where you look around and feel disconnected, this song would make you smile as you imagine the devil, something that the world fears, coming and rescuing you. Just a thought. I love this album...and Wilco.

Andrew Bird – Eyeoneye Lyrics 13 years ago
I'm surprised this has so few comments. It's a brilliant song. I want to add that we are often stubborn and find that if we inflict pain on ourselves before someone else can, at least then we are in control...we are expecting it. Much like when you have to have a splinter removed and you grab the tweezers and say, I'll do it myself!
I think when it comes to emotional pain, we often find ourselves behaving melancholy as a defense mechanism. The irony in this is that if we don't break our hearts ourselves, in that long painful way of life, there is a chance, ever so slight, that they would never be broken at all.. The game of trust is forever being decided if it's worthy to be played.

Andrew Bird – Lusitania Lyrics 13 years ago
I think this one might be about how two people might put up boundaries in the beginning of a relationship. But when one is "defeated" his "ship is sank" it's not painful..although love is a battlefied of sorts.
They slink into love and the charge of it takes over..
They don't study the war-focus on who is winning anymore... altough she may still be putting up mines on her shore to protect her heart... He can go ahead and say something dumb if he likes, there' s no shame when you fall in love.

Andrew Bird – Plasticities Lyrics 13 years ago
I agree that it represents a territorial battle of the brain. Your own personal Waterloo... as if your "self" can be compared to Napoleon battling over sections of your thoughts and what you hold important.
And I thought it said "peel away in a cubicle" which makes a lot of sense.
Bascially, life is too short to not grasp hold of your thoughts but that is nearly impossible since they are always contradicting one another, until we could possible end up mad on the street holding up signs.
Our brains can drive us crazy.

I also wanted to add that I had first thought and still kind of wished* it had said time is a crooked "bone". Because that made me think about how once a bone is broken it doesn't heal back perfectly... like life.

Andrew Bird – Armchairs Lyrics 13 years ago
First of all I adore this song and Andrew Bird. I also wish I could meet someone who had even remotely my same musical taste... That being said I have contemplated this many times and this is what I think it means:

He is basically dreaming of this love. She is so fixated on him, as if she were a cosmonaut of the space between their chairs- she is exploring the space- it's intimate. And he adores her, so he studies her, even down to the tangles in her hair.
But of course love is also sad and full of heartbreak- as everybody knows.... and this one is for everyone.
Basically time looms and weaves and there are heartaches; some immeasureable. And everyone has their hands up reaching and trying to grasp at happiness. But most don't find it- so they have to reacha point where they feel so low that gravity feels sorry for them. They have to pull up their boot straps.
After that first real heartbreak, 55 and 3/8 years after your early teens or twenties, you are tired and bitter- an armchair calls to you to rest. As you came into the world at peace you will go back to a peaceful, resting position... but you are bitter and swear you'll get back at the world... but the world keeps turning as it always has- with ancient sea slugs in the midst of barbed wire- old and new.
After that first heartbreak, the other person did not write or call- or you felt you did not even cross their mind. And you were numb.
Time is long but does little to change this feeling.
