The beauty of this site is that it allows people to add their own interpretations to lyrics..and I feel that's what art is all about. The creator has their own purpose but we interpret it from our own perspectives. Any woman who has ever suffered abuse will completely understand this song. Well, a man with the same experiences could probably understand too. The lyrics perfectly describe the anger, sadness, and even a little rebellion. I like the rebellion part. It shows that the person is moving on from the abuse, is going to protect themselves from now on. It doesn't have to be about any specific kind of abuse. It can be about having a domineering, judgmental person in your life. I also like the fact that the lyrics talk about the abuser's involvement in some shady things. It's a way of saying, "I'm on to you. You're not going to get away with this. You're not so perfect, yourself; you have no room to judge me". |

| Patty Loveless – Long Stretch of Lonesome Lyrics | 8 years ago |
| Patty Loveless has a beautiful voice. She's able to match her voice to the emotion of the song lyrics. | |
| Roberta Flack – Killing Me Softly Lyrics | 8 years ago |
| It can be about American Pie, it can be about anyone. It's about have sudden feelings for someone...sudden deep feelings, feeling like someone has touched your soul, like it was meant to be. Some people just have something about them, you can't exactly put your finger on it. Their eyes read you..they know everything about you though you've just met. | |
| Beth Hart – Mama Lyrics | 10 years ago |
| This song makes me feel sad. I see a broken mother'daughter relationship in this song. The mother, struggling with her own demons and the daughter just wanting her mother's real love and acceptance, getting some distorted form of that, in her mother's own dysfunctional way. Then the daughter sees the mother in herself. | |

| @[ohhhlaura:5671] I so agree with you! This woman has an amazing vocal range and she knows how to put on a show! I"ve seen her in concert twice and can't wait to see her again! | |
| Evans Blue – Quote Lyrics | 10 years ago |
| I like the way this one is written and sung because people have a hard time finding the right words when something goes wrong in their relationships. This gives voice to all that. | |

| I think I like the idea of listening to this song without trying to interpret its meaning. Matisyn's voice is perfect because of the mystery in it. It doesn't have to mean anything for me to enjoy it. | |
| Evanescence – Tourniquet Lyrics | 10 years ago |
| I think it's a song about vices, all the things we use to numb ourselves from the pains of this life. It's about looking for relief and not finding it, through many different "gods", re: your own personal Jesus. | |

| @[chris1979:5670] I love how you interpret this. my answer sorta says the same thing, differently. | |

What this means to me, personally: It's about looking to other people and things to love you when you don't love yourself, whether that's looking to your peers, the spiritual community, your own family, your co-workers, the government, materialism, drugs...whatev, and finding that everyone and everything, every system is fallible, that nobody can love you like you should love yourself, that nobody or nothing can fix you...no leader. You're looking for a leader, a savior and realize that these things and people aren't what it is you need. You need yourself. Only you can fix you. I know...deep. I think we all interpret these things based on our own experiences and things we're taught to believe. Society leads us all to believe that we're not good enough, as we are, that we have to add something to ourselves to be good enough. That's why we use everything out there to make ourselves look better. All these ideals fall down and come crashing around us and we're left to pick ourselves up out of the wreckage. "So afraid to open your eyes..hypnotized" this means that you're in denial about how these things and people are using you as you use them to make yourself feel better. |

| Beth Hart – Skin Lyrics | 12 years ago |

I think the song is about a person asking the divine for healing of the 'blisters in her skin', which I think is whatever it is people see on the outside of a person. That would be the things they do and say, their spiritual wounds that surface in maybe negative behavior. Still, I think it's possible that this song isn't about prayer, at all. I like it! |

I enjoy reading the various interpretations. Lyrics, as with all art, is left up to the interpretation of those who experience it. And it means more, when it resonates with you on a very intimate level. Drying in the color of the evening sun (That means when it's all over;) Tomorrow's rain will wash the stains away (Most people will forget.) But something in our minds will always stay (Though, part of them still remembers.) I think the part of us that still remembers will remember when we, personally, are reminded. This stuff is news about someone else, one day, the next day, it's very personal. It's in our own schools, our own homes. Violence forever leaves some kind of impact. Lest we forget, how fragile we are. RIP, all those affected by the senseless violence that has ripped through our lives in the past. I get ill when I watch the news.
