I think this song is awesome. Very visceral. Very raw. I can't believe there's only 1 comment. I don't have a take on what the lyrics "mean". I know what it means to me and that's enough i guess. Just had to say, I love this song. |

Could be about someone controlling you for your own "safety" but whoever this person is has boxed you into this safety net so far you lose what's important about living. Spontaneity, emotions..etc until shapes and colors are all you see and shapes and colors are all you feel. |

What the lyrics are about literally is kind of irrelevant. It's all about what the listener gets out of them with Deftones (and most other bands in my experience). Interpret it how you want and rock on. |

It really does now that you mention it. Not in so many specifics but good point. |

That's awesome. We used to scream it during half-time at the high school basketball games when they'd play this song. Thought it was a local thing. |

I can't believe no one has mentioned this yet. This song is about the return of Jesus Christ and belief in God. More specifically about someone or a group of people that don't believe in God.
In Proverbs 3 the bible speaks about wisdom. It says "She is a tree of life to them that lay hold upon her: and happy is every one that retaineth her." I can't help but think "if we're honest, sight unknown. Crowing. Frozen. Bedroom. Awoke up uncertain lays a tomb, her tree holds it unbeknownst " is a reference to Jesus' tomb and wisdom.
To me when he says "Arms out pointing. Sit and Stare at this living proof." he's talking about Jesus returning alive and unscathed. "Suns up. Braver. Hands and legs untouched. Before we forget, save this unaging proof."
The main theme of the song, im my opinion, is that the singer is literally telling people that don't believe in Jesus they aren't nervous enough about his return. He says you wont find him "curling up" because he doesn't have anything to worry about.
I'm not personally a christian but i was raised as one. When i read the lyrics to this song i couldn't help but make the connection. It's always possible the entire song is a metaphor for God knows what. |
