The Dresden Dolls – The Gardener Lyrics 11 years ago
Please don't mistake sadomasochism for abuse, there's a difference between a consensual love/sex relationship where both people respect and bring pleasure to each other, and a situation of denying someone's existence and worth.

The Dresden Dolls – Mrs. O. Lyrics 11 years ago
It's about the lies we tell children, but also about revisionism, and pretending history (here, the WW2 holocaust, Hiroshima, Tchernobyl...) never happened... In both cases we try to decide what's best for people to know, which only ends up with them living a life full of lies and blindness.
Mrs.O is a concentration camp survivor ("the time they made you go
All alone to the palace where they took your only clothes", referring to the Jews being depossessed of everything upon arrival) who refuses to admit what happened to her and others, because she thinks the children are better off thinking there are no bad people anywhere, even when the children have turned into grown ups.
The "watching the falling snow with hairdryers pointed heavenward" part is also about denial, the children are denying that snow can fall on them, which means denying that you can be involved in anything bad that is happening, like war, etc.

Moriarty – Jimmy Lyrics 12 years ago
I think it's about Moriarty's (Jim Moriarty, Sherlock Holmes' Nemesis) early years, where he came from and how he came to be a criminal.

It's a nice, welcoming family, with uncles, aunties, cousins, "where the grass is green and the buffaloes roam" (buffaloes being his family, of course) ...But under the clean surface lies a darker side ("daft" grandpa, mental illness ?)

There are two contradictory messages sent by the buffaloes to our young Jimmy : never let others get you down, be proud of yourself and what you are ("be what you are, do what you do", etc) ; but also the necessity of belonging to the group, not rocking the boat ("All roads lead to roam with the buffaloes").
It would be contradictory to Moriarty, because he has such a brilliant mind he doesn't want to be just like any other man, or he wouldn't be true to his nature, he wouldn't be fulfilling what he feels is his destiny, and this is why he can't belong in his family. Whichever way he chooses, he just ends up with a disappointing life, a feeling of incompleteness ("there's buffalo piss, and it's all kind of wet" gives me the impression of a disappointing life)

Driven by this inner conflict and dissatisfaction, he turns to a life of crime, and finds out there's no going back ("you can't clean your name", "One of Jimmy's friends has taken the floor"). Jimmy has "forgotten he's young" (= forgotten his youth, forsaken his innocence, turned his back to his family).

And the last call from his family is for him to "remember he's unknown", put his ego aside to finally come home in buffaloland, with his family, but Moriarty can't do that any more, which ends the song on a very tragic note.

Placebo – Begin the End Lyrics 12 years ago
And I don’t enjoy to watch you crumble, I don’t enjoy to watch you cry, But make no mistake, I will make you crumble and I will make you cry all the same. I don't know why I'm obsessed with these lines :p

The Brunettes – Her Hairagami Set Lyrics 12 years ago
This song reminds me of a side of femininity I'm not comfortable with (as a girl), the need to wear sophisticated make-up and hairdos to be considered a pretty girl (which is, of course, not true, but is imprinted on us by society). We think make-up and hairagami sets make us beautiful, but actually they only augment and hide our natural beauty, replace it with an artificial one.

Indochine – Des Fleurs Pour Salinger Lyrics 13 years ago
Would it be possible for me to talk to him,
To meet him
Would it be possible for me to talk to him
Without upsetting him
In the room with worship, way before
The American psyche
Took a fancy in zen, he withdrew from the world
A whole world.

Here, flowers for Salinger
Tenant of a monastery,
Flowers for Salinger
Oh! Oh! Oh!
The devil of unchained writings
Oh! Oh! Oh!
Here, flowers for Salinger
Tenant of a monastery.

But let him his secrets to keep
His privacy
It's to protect himself, he's tired
Of all of your stupidities.

Here, flowers for Salinger
Tenant of a monastery
Flowers for Salinger
Oh! Oh! Oh!

I'll pretend to be deaf and dumb
And I'll marry this girl
Deaf and dumb
We'll leave near a stream, near the woods
But not in the woods...

Here, flowers for Salinger
Tenant of a monastery
Flowers for Salinger
Oh! O! Oh !
The devil of unchained writings
Oh! Oh! Oh!
Flowers, flowers for Salinger
Oh! Oh! Oh!

Indochine – Tes Yeux Noirs Lyrics 13 years ago
Eh! Come here, come with me, don't leave without me
Oh! Oh! Oh! Come here, stay here, don't leave without me
Eh, you take your clothes, you put them on
Eh, tonight in this bed you're so pretty

But what is shining on our gazes ?
Those are your black eyes
Strong body, short hair
You look like a boy
And I feel your skin, even without light
The snakes are legendary.

Where are you going, black eyes
You're going to nowhere

Come on! Come here, come with me, don't leave without me
Come on! Come here, stay here, don't leave without me
Eh! You take your clothes, you put them on.
Eh! Tonight in this bed, you're so pretty
And we'll see each other everyday as soon as we come back
Take your clothes, and you're cold
And put them on
And you're screaming in the water, even in winter
And your black eyes shine

Where do you go when you leave ?
In the street, to nowhere ?

Come on! Come here, come with me, don't leave without me
Come on! Come here, stay here, don't leave without me
Eh! Tonight in this bed you're so pretty
Eh! You take your clothes, you put them on

Oh! Oh! Oh!

Come on! Come here, come with me, don't leave without me
Eh! Here tonight you were so pretty

Indochine – Kissing My Song Lyrics 13 years ago
It's really sensual, and poetic. Everything is implied, suggested, with the music, rhythm, and Nicola's hottest voice, I can almost feel every kiss and every caress. No song turns me on like this one.

Indochine – Alice et June Lyrics 13 years ago
A few more corrections to eva, wake up's translation (I'm a French girl) :

It's not "Alice isn't coming back to me", nor "Alice isn't returning to you", but rather "Alice, don't turn around". 'retourner' and 'SE retourner' don't have the same meaning.

"a place that shouldn't have been" is also a little approximative, it's more like "a place where she shouldn't have" (meaning 'where she shouldn't have been born') but my English is kind of reaching its boundaries here...

"it was once someone like me" would be, more accurately, "once upon a time there was someone like me", but your version is OK.

"but if you see me, i think that you will grow" : it's not "see", it's "drink" (reference to Alice in Wonderland indeed, except that she's lost in Nightmareland or something like that...)

"but there is a place here no more
for her to grow well (again ?)" : 'place' in French and 'place' in English don't mean the same thing, be careful. I'd translate that "but there's no room here/ for her to grow further". (or "for her to grow any more", that's up to discussion.)

Apart from that I agree with erunyauve.

Princess Chelsea – Machines Of Loving Grace Lyrics 13 years ago
The image that comes to my mind upon listening to this is that of two robots, robots that would have the ability to love, "machines of loving grace", flying through space with a whale's elegance and gracefulness. They travel amongst the stars ("sparks of light") and asteroids, and teach everyone they encounter how to truly love, to "save the human race".
They're a kind of sublimation of pure and true love

Princess Chelsea – Machines Of Loving Grace Lyrics 13 years ago
When I listen to this, first I get a shiver, my breathing deepens, and I feel like I'm floating towards the skies of Heaven. And when she starts singing, I hear the voice of an angel enveloping me in the infinite fields of tenderness, and melancholic unrequited love.

Princess Chelsea – Ice Reign Lyrics 13 years ago
About this song's meaning, it's probably the warning of a girl (on behalf of the whole people), telling to their monarchs not to take advantage of their position to wage wars from a distance and watch their people get killed, or be "cruel and mean", or else the people will form a revolution and cut their heads off.

Princess Chelsea – Ice Reign Lyrics 13 years ago
I like the coldness (no pun intended...) of this song, the way the singer talks about slicing her king and queen's heads off without flinching... It makes me shiver but I love it !

Yann Tiersen – Monochrome Lyrics 13 years ago
To me, it's about a man who suffered from a serious accident, or disabling medical condition, and hence can't leave his apartment, which would be why he "lost his face" : he's been disfigured by the accident. Apart from that, I agree with the general depression explanation.

Princess Chelsea – Caution Repetitive Lyrics 13 years ago
I think it's about a man who's above average intelligence, he feels he should be treated like someone special, be famous, he could "go far" (metaphorically, aim for the top) but nobody seem to understand that. He thinks he's "something great", but society keeps reminding him that it's "nothing new", that he's not that special.

As he's frustrated, he tends to become violent, and despise other people : "you shoot them to the floor".

In parallel, he starts to be a bit famous on the net, but "You're a star amongst a few but we wonder who you are" highlights the strangeness of internet fame : you're famous but no one actually knows you, leaving you alone with your frustration and bitterness.
