| The Jesus and Mary Chain – Just Like Honey Lyrics | 13 years ago |

It's all just unrequited love. My interpretation is that he already knew the girl, and he's seeing her again for the first time in a while. He's listening to her speak "as she takes on half the world", as she takes on all the girls in the room, and beats them, by holding the attention of all the men, the other half. She's "moving up" in the world and going places, "so alive", she's like this breath of fresh air compared to all the other girls. He compares her to honey. Honey is often used to describe someone lovingly or affectionately. "Walking back to you is the hardest thing that I can do" I think this line is the lyricist describing how he tried so hard not to think about her. How it's hard for him to admit to himself that he's falling for her again and "walking back" to her. He kids himself by saying he's doing it for her, "that I can do for you". He'd do anything to be with her, he'd "be her plastic toy". He compares other girls to her but adjudges them only to be "scum". They're nothing compared to her, to "honey". He can only catch the attention of these "scum" though, and it's "hard" for him to accept that. I think the repeated chanting of "just like honey" until the end, is a window into his mind, of how he cannot stop thinking about her, and maybe never will. Or it could just be about eating a girl out, what do I know? |
