"though how can I stand and laugh with the man who redefined your body?" This song was in the movie High Fidelity. If I remember right, it plays around the time the John Cusack character is talking to the Tim Robbins character, who he knows is screwing his (Cusack's) girl friend (the beautiful Iben Ijejle). And Robbins knows Cusack knows. Cusack is trying to talk somewhat normally to a smirking Robbins, even as he fantasizes about his friends and he beating Robbins to death. Robbins has redefined Ijejle's body for Cusack. A big part of the movie is how Cusack overcomes his changed feelings and resumes his relationship with Ijejle. "mother came rushing in she said we didn't see a thing we said we didn't see a thing" When I heard that I remembered what Tommy saw in the rock opera Tommy, but here I think the song is just describing marital fighting. The song illustrates how people become cold blooded in 3 aspects: kids witnessing marital strife, kids comprehending a lot more of what is going on in a family than their parents believe (even as a little squirrel), and adults dealing with feelings of betrayal in a romantic relationship. |
