| Florence + the Machine – Never Let Me Go Lyrics | 13 years ago |
|
I have 2 ideas for what this is about. A. She's finding peace in committing suicide by drowning herself at the bottom of the sea. Before she finally slips into death, she wonders if she'll go to heaven or hell. B. It's a metaphor for love. She's enveloped by it and using it as a requiem. |

| Florence + the Machine – Breaking Down Lyrics | 13 years ago |

Okay, if you've seen "Spirited Away" by Miyazaki, you know the "spirits" with black bodies and glowing eyes? That's what this song makes me picture. I picture Florence as a child with a spooky looking imaginary friend walking towards her from the corner of her dark room or from the streetlamp that she can see from out her window. She's lonely and sad. She has a breakdown, and her imaginary friend visits her. Even though he scares her a little, she's comforted by him. By the age of adulthood, the dark figure can't be shut out and now she has to deal with it forever. I think that it's a metaphor for accepting her loneliness. Because, it comforts and scares her at the same time, and she sadly knows that it's true. |

| Haha honestly I think that this is just about a very strange dream she had when she was extremely drunk, and she's using it as a metaphor for pressure. | |
| Marina and the Diamonds – Obsessions Lyrics | 13 years ago |

Well, basically I think that this song is about OCD and not a laover. Now, I'm pretty sure that Marina herself doesn't have OCD, so she's talking about the POV of a made up character who does. Sunday, wake up, give me a cigarette. Last night's love affair is looking vulnerable in my bed Cigarettes are a metaphor for addiction in general. They could represent any addiction. "Last night's love affair" means that last night, she totally indulged her obsession. ""Looking vulnerable" means that now she's tempted to judge herself. Won't you quit your crying? I can't sleep One minute I'm a little sweetheart And next minute you are an absolute creep She has conflicting feelings about herself and is crying, which is preventing her from falling back asleep. We've got obsessions I want to wipe out all the sad ideas that come to me when I am holding you We've got obsessions All you ever think about are sick ideas involving me, involving you "We've got obsessions" is most likely about people in general. "I...holding you" is referring to how awful she feels when she embraces her obsession. "All...involving you" is where she's talking about how her OCD wants to control her. It's been personified. Supermarket, what packet of crackers to pick? They're all the same, one brand, one name, but really they're not She's obsessing over what decision to make about something trivial. Look, look, just choose something quick People are staring, time ticker quicking Skin is on fire; just choose something, something, something Pressure overwhelming She's freaking out because, as others have said, she feels like everyone's watching her and her time is running out. She's pressured and anxious. Next minute I am turning out of the door, facing one week without food When I first heard this song, I thought she was talking about being driven to steal crackers by poverty and hunger, and how everyone suspects her and at the end she just gives up. However, she's probably just being overly obsessive about which crackers to buy and feeling paranoid. The whole second verse is about paranoia and anxiety. So, she decides to just go without food rather than feel like everyone is judging her. A day, a day when things are pretty bad Don't let it make you feel sad, the crackers were probably bad luck anyway She uses superstition to comfort herself. Can't let your cold heart be free When you act like you've got an OCD She's reprimanding herself about how OCD restrains her "cold heart." We've got obsessions I want to erase every nasty thought that bugs me every day of every week We've got obsessions You never told me what it was that made you strong and what it was that made you weak. She has a dirty mind, which she has mentioned in other songs, and she tries to just shut it out, just like the sad ideas that happen when she gives in to her addiction. She doesn't know what makes her obsession strong and weak. She's confused and conflicted. Well, there you go, those are my interpretations. |
