Gorillaz – Clint Eastwood Lyrics 11 years ago
Part of this song is obviously talking about weed, but thats only one part of it. Yall wanna insert your own ideas about mushrooms or acid, be my guest, but this song is about music and society. They're talking about the willessness of the typical music consumer, enlightening people to free thinking once again instead of being slaves to the media that is forcefed to them. They want to fix the music industry and the minds of people across the world, even if that means possessing peoples will in the same way others have done.

I'm also pretty sure the "i'm useless, but not for long" is a commentary on how there is no place those who freely express themselves in our world but in the world they'd like to create there would be. And sunshine in a bag could refer to weed or the music or good vibes they create, but the part about toking up definitely is about weed.

the last verse is then about everything they see wrong with the world and what they're trying to expose and trying to teach people better.

"destruction and demise
Corruption in disguise
From this fuckin' enterprise
Now I'm sucking to your lies"

and finally my future is coming on implies that their way is the way of the future, i.e. mass enlightenment to the corruption of all

Pink Floyd – Welcome to the Machine Lyrics 12 years ago
Vishanka i cant stand people like you. You comment on this song just to disagree with me, and to make matters worse you don't even make any valid points. You're ignoring the "you bought a guitar to punish your mom" parts that so clearly imply it is his parents he is singing about. It also clearly disapproves of his chosen profession, contradicted later by "welcome to the machine" as well as mention of all the rich attractive aspects that later make it seem like a good choice, say, to some deadbeat parent who didn't give a shit until his son became a star. And yes, Welcome to the Machine was released on Wish You Were Here in 1975, long after they had reached popular success.

Now if you weren't such a contrarian, you'd realize he's addressing both his father, the media, and the music industry as a whole, and that i've already basically mentioned that so you're bringing nothing new to the table. These are things anyone can gather using inferences, but disagreeing with a point because its slightly broader minded than yours is idiotic and uselessly negative.

Pink Floyd – Welcome to the Machine Lyrics 12 years ago
This song is not about a conspiracy, the afterlife, or any of that crap. Its nothing supernatural or diabolical, its just about life, people, acceptance and superficiality. He grew up without a family who accepted or was proud of who he is. "My son" implies its his parents who are speaking or at least some figure of authority or paternity in his life. The machine refers to the constructs he sees in society, ways people are taught to believe rather than choose for themselves, by being shaped by the machine you become the machine. He sees the aspirations of the world being not of their own and wants to keep his own individuality. They told him what to dream, they know where he's been, they planned it. This is about him choosing his own path, being rejected for it, and then suddenly finding acceptance when he has all the superficial things, like money, fame, jaguars, etc. "Welcome to the machine" translates to "we accept you now because you're famous" which can be a bitter sentiment whether he's talking about his family, the world, or someone else. It feels like you don't matter at all and they see right through you, to what you can do for them.

Röyksopp – Tricky Tricky Lyrics 12 years ago
i think this song is about 21st century gender roles.

"they show you what to follow, it looks like a man"
she sees men in control of the world
"sleeping in the palm, the palm of my hand"
she sees the women in control of the men

"staring at the wall, hour after hour", "we're here to entertain, show them what you got", "stories to interpret" etc.
shes feeling bleak about the complicated situation gender stereotypes of the modern age. she doesn't like the avenues she has to go down to get power in this world. i suppose the "tricky" part is dealing with the way you want to live and the parts of society you can't control.

John Frusciante – Invisible Movement Lyrics 13 years ago
This song is amazing and deep and very emotional. I'm going through something similar so it means a lot to know theres someone else thats felt this way.

Extra time when you think it's all over
Live a life when you've rolled over and died
(life goes on, even after you think its the end. even after you've given up on life, you still have to face being alive)
I don't feel pain
I don't travel this line
(he's escaping with drugs, numbing the pain)
Levitate and feel the ground get closer
Ecstasy made every step a mile
When it becomes a waste
Why hold on for dear life
(having given up on life, he feels no reason to hold onto anything, himself, and in his detachment he finds himself closer to some kind of understanding)
Wide pain in the blue white break up
All paths divide
Life has a way of opening up
(he knows that all things end, the happiness he had before and the inevitable moment when the drug wears off and he's going to have to face his pain. "life has a way of opening up", no matter how much you bottle up or run away from your feelings they always have to be faced eventually)

All names travel with their owner
Tho' they've no space, they move all around
I see invisible movement in every town
Every cry is a separate emotion
Happenings are planned
And then they arrive
They go on with or without you there
(he's looking at the world, the way we attribute names and ideas and create a world beyond the real one inside our minds and try to explain everything. "every cry is a separate emotion" implies there's a lot more to what people feel than just "sadness", but the world only sees names. i'm pretty sure the "invisible movement" he's describing is the world beyond what we can name that most people are blind to. "happenings are planned--they go on with or without you" is describing how the world continues doing the same thing it was even after he's given up and taken himself out of the equation.
