First of all, just wanted to apologize for my bad english but it's not my main language. For the band this song probably talk about satan, seeing as they're a Christian rock band. Satan is a manipulator and he tries to pretend people trust in him, 'cause he makes them feel like they'll have a perfect life with him. But they (the band) can see through satan's lie and don't trust in him. For me this song has a different meaning and I'd like to share it with you. "You pretend what you say you feel You pretend that you're something special All the lies that you hide behind I see right through you, See right through you." I see this verse as my present is talking to my past. I've been through a lot of troubles in the past and I always tried to lie about my condition. I thought people couldn't understand how I feel so I kept telling them "I was alright", "I was fine" and they always thought "I was a special person". But that was a big lie. I wasn't special, I wasn't fine and I wasn't alright. Only I could see through my lie. "Paint it on, cover every inch Any flaws will expose your weakness I'm immune to your fantasy I won't become you, won't become you" "Paint it on, cover every inch" could mean this person is covering his scars 'cause he's too scared to reveal them to anyone. He tries to cover them with paint and he can't make anybody see his inch. Any flaws could expose his weakness and he doesn't want to. He thinks his immune to the fantasy's of the people who hurt him and he will never become like them. He tries to be a better person but he's suffering so much. "You want a perfect Perfect Life Nothing wrong, nothing real inside All I see is a perfect lie I don't want your perfect life" The person wishes for a perfect life. He'd… like to pretend he has a perfect life. He's lying so much that he doesn't feel anything anymore. He's covering and anything won't hurt him. But, after all, something in his mind begin to tell him… "All I see is a perfect lie" "So keep your dream with no consequence You'd damage me just to feed your senses All you fake for reality I see right through you, see right through you" This person keep dreaming about his perfect life, but he's not really realizing it. There are no consequence 'cause he doesn't want to act for anything. He also began to damage people around him. So…. He fakes for reality. But he can't avoid that He can see right through his lie. So he began to be paralyzed. "Take your pride, take your vanity Can't you see that your ego's empty I will turn, I will walk away. I won't become you, won't become you." This is… Probably my favorite verse. This person has no pride, no vanity and his ego's empty. This person has anything. But…. He begins to feel like he doesn't deserve all that pain. He doesn't deserve to cover his scars. So he goes away. He begins to run away from people who hurt him, he takes his distance from them It doesn't matter how much he suffered, he'll never be like them. "I don't want your perfect life" He doesn't want that perfect life anymore. He doesn't want to keep like that, he's just suffering and he begins to realize he's hurting himself. It doesn't matter… After all, nothing's perfect. "My eyes are wide open I see the enemy, the hypocrisy Your cover is fading Secrets pouring out, castles falling down There's nothing to hide behind I know who I am inside I'm perfectly broken." This people begins to see reality. He starts to realize he doesn't have to prove anything to anyone. He begins to know himself and along the way he discovered something… He's not perfect and perfection doesn't exist. He's not a perfect person and he doesn't need to show other people about his perfection. He's beautiful the way he is. So he interrupts covering his scars, he shows them to people… Let people see his weakness. And he probably feels beautiful for the first time in his like. He discovered that there's nothing better than being perfectly broken and that's not a shame. He doesn't want a perfect like anymore. |
