Lyrics are rough but I think most of them are correct. As far as the song goes, sounds like a guy taking his girlfriend back to his old stomping grounds and running into his old gang, the Cityscape Skins which have made appearances in other Hold Steady songs. They're starting to cause trouble again and he didn't think they would still be around. No idea who the "he" could be though. Possibly Gideon since he was part of the gang? |

| Sounds like another song about a relationship but how it's deteriorating/fading. The song about fire and sex I assume is Sex On Fire by Kings of Leon, which leads me to believe this song may be about cheating and feeling guilty also. I could be completely off but either way, its nice to have my old TBS back. Here's to the new album! | |

| I think this song is about the circus after all the animals have left. It sounds like the circus is using tricks and tactics to get people to come to the circus, using fiji mermaids and harlequins to replace them, but the circus is suffering financially. Julian the Onion also touches on this issue. I'm not so sure about the last few lines and how they tie in, but this is just my own interpretation. | |
