Rihanna – Wait Your Turn Lyrics 14 years ago
i think its that she was telling a guy to wait his turn cause she had so many guys who liked her but finally she decided to give him a try after turning him over so many times and realise he was the love of her life. good beat but the lyrics are meh.

The Dissociatives – Thinking in Reverse Lyrics 14 years ago
I really don't know. i see the relationship part (my first thought) i agree it can also be about someone finding the negatives about everything...i also kind of see it as someone with a drug problem though
the first stanza sounds like someone lining up his drug of choice (the fact that the lyrics include lining up make me think of coke more than anything else, but i suppose you can see "lining up" as also meaning planning the doeses for the day or evening) but that that the feeling the drug gives him (making him happy and thus smiling) won't last forever. the chorus could be something trying to get him to stop but he sees is as "thinking in reverse" because he's gone beyond what is "too much" drug wise so he technically thinks he's not making things worse for himself. or now that he's used to drugs stopping them would be worse. I'm not too sure about the last one cept for the numb part, as in you numb yourself with drugs so you don't have to feel anymore. Or perhaps the "hospital" is rehab and he is now suppose to feel when before all he did was numb it out.

Emily Haines & the Soft Skeleton – The Lottery Lyrics 14 years ago
i agree with ebdavidson. That even though there was a big feminism movement for woman's freedom we really took a step back. yes maybe we now have the right to vote and do the same things men are aloud to do (ie. in the work place) but at the same time it brought up a sexualisation and making a woman an object, and i think that's especially true when regarding the music busness. What gets popular screen time on mtv, etc? Well the scantily clad woman of pop radio. So i think the song is just reflecting that while emily does want woman equality and freedom she notices that it also brought up the "whoreness" of woman in that sexual freedom sense. And i kind of see the "who loves me part" as the sense that now that we don't find that one guy to marry off young, guys and girls alike play the field alot longer than we would have 50+ years ago and music industry wise, i think emily might have had to go through the "who loves me" in the sense of who likes my music and wants to sign me/listen to me, even if i don't have half naked videos of me dancing. if that makes any sense

Lily Allen – Not Big Lyrics 14 years ago
i think its more of a blowing off steam song. She's not necessarily saying he did have a small dick but i think either way the one who's been dumped usually puts this shell up and tries to throw down the dumper and i think its more relating to that then saying he litterally has a small one. Plus many of us will try to hurt the person who hurt us even if its in immature commentary about that person ;)

Hilary Duff – Dangerous To Know Lyrics 14 years ago
though the when listening to the song itself it sounds like she's saying its 'alright to steal", if you take it in context it really doesn't mean to steal from other people. this song just sounds like she's in love, and perhaps more in lust, with someone, and its that aspect she wants to "steal" from them. first time i heard this song today (yeah i'm a little late apparently) and though she might not be exactly the best singer around this song is actually pretty good.

Pink – Long Way To Happy Lyrics 14 years ago
i think the "Just a bitter little pill now Just to try to go to sleep" part is more of a metaphore. Sort of like the saying "that's a tough pill to swallow" She's so bitter that all she can do is think about it and can't even fall asleep.

and the rolling away bed, i'm just picturing anything on wheels that plumets downwards on a hill. So in a sense she put her childhood behind (or someone took it away from her) and it was pushed down the hill. A reference to how fast it got away from her. Or just the reference to a rollaway bed itself kind of gives the idea of something that you put away. A rollaway bed is usually used temporarily and then put away in storage. So again the image that her childhood was left behind.

I think the song can easily mean anything. I also think alot of the references have to do with rape and/or abuse. Something that can make someone grow up very fast.
but the song can easily be interpreted as a break up song or to any type of hardship in life.
It can be a first time relationship. Someone you give everything to and think that it'll last forvever, and then he breaks up with you and you're forced to "grow up" and that life is not a fairy tale and you don't get married to the first prince that comes along. Though the "never knew your name" lyric wouldn't make as much sense there.

City and Colour – Sometimes (I Wish) Lyrics 15 years ago
i think it questions if the person who is with them would still love him even if he had none of these things (fame etc.) yes, but i think the "if i was a simple man" verse and the "sometimes i wonder why" and chorus also maybe want to apologize for being on the road all the time and that maybe he also wouldn't have problems dealing with that aspect.
"And I could make you understand
Thered be no reason to think twice" - you'ld stay with me because i'ld always be close to home

"Sometimes I wonder why
Im so full of these endless rhymes
About the way I feel inside " - double meaning to me. explains why he's opposite of simple, in terms of complicated, but also not a simple man because it is a talent he has and that's how he is making a living, and thus a little different than the man who works 9-5 and is at home the rest of the time.

Gwen Stefani – Wind It Up Lyrics 15 years ago
yeah it does seem to refer to sex, and maybe even to procreation (your key is still tic tocking...you're still fertile instead of your clock i guess) but then two lines make me hesistate on what everyone is saying " don't let him ride" as if don't let him have sex with you and then the
Keep goin' girl, it's your night
Don't let him steal your light
I know he thinks you're fine and stuff
But does he know how to wind you up?

its as if saying "i know you're having a good time ith him and he seems to really like you but is he worth your time".

could also be that the "key" is only to be given to a certain guy to "wind us up" in the sense that its makes us dance to attract a guy but we want to know why he likes us so much other than the way we move etc. So don't let the guy ride untill we find the right one to wind up the key?
a weird way to look at it but it could make sense sort of lol

Gwen Stefani – What Are You Waiting For?(Video Version) Lyrics 15 years ago
yup with everyone here. about how she has to do it alone and has to take the chance,(as well as she has to do what pleases her and not only what No Doubt says as a band) and at the same time speaking about how in hollywood you never know when your time is up (especially for woman) "Your moment has run out Cause of your sex chromosome " and then "look at your watch now, you're still a super hot female" reassures her of the fact that she may not have much time but if she hurries up she's still hot so she can at least do the solo project

Gwen Stefani – Luxurious Lyrics 15 years ago
the only thing i can see wrong is transpirer= sweat. Sigh would be soupirer. the reste looks good. for the "plein" part i don't know. it can mean full as well as whole (which would then be like you said "you make me complete". the french sentence doesn't make sense as far as i can tell though. so like you, i'm going to assume they translated the french from english expressions and they turned out the way they did.

don't really like the song in general, and it is the first time i actually read teh lyrics so i can actaully now say that lyrically the song is good, just don't like the music part of it :(

The Black Eyed Peas – Boom Boom Pow Lyrics 15 years ago
that's was also my first thought when i heard the song and mayb also explain why they're talking about how great the beat is...many of the songs are only good because of their beat and not the actual lyrical content or the voice of the person

Silverchair – My Favourite Thing Lyrics 15 years ago
i also like how the "letting go" can be a reference to the "you're the one so i'ld die for your love", so "letting go" in the sense of death...or it can just be a litterate "letting go", like letting the person or thing that he loves go

Silverchair – Cicada Lyrics 15 years ago
yeah i like the song too, but if you read it it does look like one of those things you write trying your best to make things rhyme. I'm gonna assume that's why he hates it lol but in general its a good song to listen to if you don't pay too much attention to the lyrics (though they aren't so bad considering when he wrote it)

Our Lady Peace – Superman's Dead Lyrics 15 years ago
yeah i don't think its necessarily about bullying but just about fitting in to a weird distorted social concept about what one should be. i also agree with the comments that it might be about lost childhood or whatever because i was thinking of "superman's dead" as a childhood being dead. Sort of like when you're small you read comics and watch all these shows and have a wild imagination were you really believe that somewhere superman or whoever really exists and as you grow older you kind of realise its a fake idea and there is no superman and you have to work hard to fit in or whatever and all the pressure that goes along with it.

Silverchair – Those Thieving Birds/Strange Behaviour Lyrics 15 years ago

Silverchair – Straight Lines Lyrics 15 years ago
speaking of simialr lyrics...
cemetary "i live in a cemetary full of good will and integrety" (perhaps meaning that they are dead/non existant

Straight lines " there's good will inside of me"

i don't know i just recently thought of it and thought it was an interesting comparison. of him saying in one of the older song that he possibly has none (or at least no specialty) and in a newer song kind of realising "hey i do"

Silverchair – Reflections Of A Sound Lyrics 15 years ago
hmmm i dunno but the title always makes me think that their sound as a band changing. And some lyrics seem to reflect that
"i know its been far too long lets stick together"
"i wait so long that my head is now full of pressure" (needs to write songs again now that the band is back together)

Its probably wayyy off and not about that at all
on the website i found interesting that its written "come down from the WAIST of time" (as opposed to waste and makes it a very visual lyric.)Wanted to check the cd sleeve but its not with me at the moment

Silverchair – Abuse Me Lyrics 15 years ago
Well I don't think you like me
Well I hate you as well
No one seems to like you
Wish I couldn't tell

i always liked this line if you relate to the song in a high scool bully way especially if you're talking about one of those popular bitch type people. They're "popular" yet people don't really like them because of the amount of bitch there is to them.

If you want to relate it to fame. I guess even if the critics are saying they don't like silverchair the fans seem to as the album is selling...so the fans, in a sense, don't like he critics because they're going against their bad reviews or whatever and buying the music.

Lily Allen – LDN Lyrics 15 years ago
as stupid as it sounds since she's lived a prestigious life. It is entirely possible that she's reflecting on that fact that while she grew up to possibly believe that everything is fine and dandy and she gets everything that she wants but as she grows up she realises that there is a world outside of her own where it isn't as fabulous.

submissions
Pink – It's All Your Fault Lyrics 15 years ago
yup this makes sense too. i think its sort of a double meaning. The hating yourself for losing someone mixed with the threatning of leaving even though that's not really what you want but you'ld do it if the other person is not happy (if it doesn't work this is a reply to saint street)

submissions
Bloc Party – Ion Square Lyrics 15 years ago
i kind of saw it as the other person wants to break up because "it got boring" and he's trying to say relationships will usually end up a little more boring as they go on but if the two love each other it shouldn't matter. but most of what of people have written seem like good descriptions too

submissions
Silverchair – Young Modern Station Lyrics 15 years ago
yup i think silverchairmeans1 pretty much got it. plus the moving back to the country, didn't he(they) live in like LA or somewhere in the states and he did literally move back to "his country". And yup i do believe the "alergic and in the news" is pretty much a reference to critics and a way of saying "no matter what i do i'll be in the news so F off. But i'ld pretty much go with silverchairmeans2 one meaning, perhaps with some slight altercations or added thoughts, but mine still pretty much run on the same lines

The Dissociatives – Thinking in Reverse Lyrics 15 years ago
if its about illness i guess its how as soon that you are happy you find something wrong with it. that's why it last as long as the smile.

i can also see it relationship wise, where evntually you fall in the same pattern and you keep blaming each other. like where it feels like nothing is enuogh (where as once it felt as if you were doing "too much". but i'm going to assume it has more to do with illness. i dunno

Silverchair – Steam Will Rise Lyrics 15 years ago
this song used to freak me out when i was alone or it was night. i think it was the back up "oos" and that sort of trill noise at "only wanted a piece of myself" lol. But this song is good. Really think its just about getting over everything and looking back and telling oneself that things wil eventually get better. I think this fits well as the last song too. Everything else that he wrote about is kind of summed up here and hes saying that his esteem will eventually rise.

submissions
Silverchair – Straight Lines Lyrics 15 years ago
agreed. plus technically at the time wouldn't frogstomp and freak sort of be "commercial" in the sense that grundge was the popular alternative type of music (i guess sort of like "emo" today). Either way i think other than straight line their stuff is entertaining and very different from the "commercial" music that's out.

and to add after i heard that same quote you put. I'm thinking that this song sort of reflects the idea of Daniel sort of knowing that being with Silverchair is were he's meant to be mixed with how he's overcome any disorders and depression.
"I don't need no time to say
There's no changing yesterday
If we keep talking and
I keep walking in straight lines" i think this reflects it. in the sense that there's no changing yesterday and he keeps walking in a straight line that he can't change who he is and he is progressing as a person, but also the band is taking a new direction but you can only move forward.

i also think the fist verse can easily represent these two ideas as well. "i had no one with faces in front of me" I think can represent his depression and feeling like he had no one even though millions of fans looked up to him at concerts and whatever. but also feeling the emptyness of maybe taking a break and realising that silverchair was there all along. anyways that's my take on it even though i'm prob waaayyy of lol

Paramore – Fences Lyrics 15 years ago
the first verse i think is just an allusion to how having a group of paparazzi around you is like being stuck in a mental ward and they drive you crazy but you have to act "normal" so they don't have anything to say about you. If we're taking the celebrity route, i don't think its necesaraly about an actual rehab center that they are in

submissions
The Moffatts – Written All Over My Heart Lyrics 15 years ago
i can also see this as a break up song were one person still cares about the other, but the other person has moved on. Thus the reason its killing one inside and they can't really tell "her" how they feel. You have to pretend that you have let it go even if you haven't.

but it can be interpretted in both ways...just liking someone so much but not being able to let them know cause you don't think they even notice you at all

submissions
David Bowie – The Jean Genie Lyrics 15 years ago
I think part of it can also be a reference to a sort of "American dream" but even more to an aspiration of being part of the "jet set". In the sense that "greenie" can be a substatute for greed and the idea that money is green and talking about monroe and snow white can represent aspirations. But i may be taking it too far lol

Alkaline Trio – This Is Getting Over You Lyrics 15 years ago
i see the "drowning" and drowning girls" as reflecting two aspects. as in drowning in sorrow but also maybe in the sense that you sometimes go on the rebound. So maybe "drowning girls" is him seeing other girls just to get over the person as well as crying over her, thus drowning girls.

also good question by gary about queen of pain, never thought of it

submissions
Alkaline Trio – Fatally Yours Lyrics 15 years ago
i see at as a couple who has their "last fight" so to speak. But one of them just flies "off the handle" while the other "keeps their tricks up their sleeves" in the sense that they won't retaliate and instead they're like you know what i'm just going to leave. i think the part about the wish that won't come true and killing two" can be in the sense of that the person said something they didn't mean and now both of them are in pain because of it. either they're staying together and are not happy anymore, or they broke up because of it but neither of them really wanted that. Either of the ways the wish is not coming true. in the first scenario she might have said something about breaking up but they've made up but areunhappy. or she said it without thinking and they do break up but she really wanted to be with him as he did with her. but at the same time he's out of his misery because he doesn't have to put up with it anymore. i don't knwo if that makes sense lol

can totally relate to this song. its basically saying i can't live without you to someone. they made you happy and now that their gone you feel like you can't do it. Also what beautifully broken has said. There's nothing worst than someone turning around and telling you they don't love you anymore

submissions
Pink – Sober Lyrics 15 years ago
i think its using alcohol as a relief and a way to forget but eventually you get sick of it and realise that it doesn't make you feel as happy and you want to feel the way your "high" feels when you're sober. "Why do i feel like the party is over" i don't think means it litteraly, like when you've drank so much that you kill the mood but just that you don't want to feel the emptiness anymore.

Katy Perry – Thinking of You Lyrics 15 years ago
amillionhearts: that's an interesting take on it. i think the only line that wouldn't really fit is the "You said there's tons of fish in the waters
So the waters I will test" cause if you're still with the original boyfriend you're not really testing the waters but i think both your version and the version of no one being able to replace the ex both work very well with the song. And you're version sort of works wit the video with the blood on her hands, like she's done something wrong.

Lisa Loeb – Stay (I Missed You) Lyrics 16 years ago
to melissy. i think itsx cause the song is how she wants to leave when she's mad or whatever maybe cause she thinks he'll leave her. but in the end he's saying that not only is he a "keeper" but that he wants to keep her so he wants her to stay. like "i want to keep you but you're afraid i'm gonna one day let you go" but i think Marvel's theory also works with all this
