| Red Hot Chili Peppers – Bicycle Song Lyrics | 8 years ago |

I believe this song is about his relationship with Yohanna Logan. Or at least partially. "Here she comes in a suit and tie". - Yohanna is a talented fashion designer that Anthony helped put through school for fashion design. Her stuff is worn by quite a few popular bands. I think I even saw here wearing a suit top and a tie in a picture online at some point. "Please do not resist your fate, I'll pick you up yes it's a date" - She acted aloof at first as though she wasn't interested. But he was dead set on getting her. And he did. "Somebody told the world. The beauty of your verse. My girl I heard it first" - She started a band called Wow Cougar, So she is a singer/songwriter as well. Her fashion style and sense made her a great designer. Bands like no doubt and green day wear her stuff. So she became somewhat known for her fashions. "How could I forget to mention the Bicycle is a good invention" Also the rest of the choruses - Their relationship was on again off again for well over 5 years,They also go for rides on bicycles together..lol. Maybe literal as well as a metaphor? They ended up breaking up because Anthony wanted children and she didn't at the time. So this could also be the meaning behind a few of the happy but sad references etc. Knowing that it won't last every time they get back together. But I could be wrong. It could be about young love as mentioned by earlier posters. There are some juvenile references - Sticky finger and a wicked taste always makes me think of adolescent boys fingering girls because that's what you do at that age. Plus the write it in your book i promise not to look - young girls tend to keep diaries. Bicycles are things young people ride. So that makes sense as well. |

Man this song makes me think of the movie Control, a movie based around Ian Curtis' life in the band Joy Division. The movie came out after this song though. John loves Joy Division and these lyrics really do read like Ian Curtis' point of view. Would be something if he was writing from Ian's point of view on a song called Control many years before the movie Control. Probably no connection but watch the movie then read these lyrics and they match up nicely. |
