| Voltaire – Dunce Lyrics | 11 years ago |

This song is about how people are hostile when others try to express their opinion. It starts with how the singer makes a comment, and everyone is shocked by it. He then says that it's "easier to play a part", to just conform and ignore your own feelings. But once you express an opinion you've already messed up with that. He then goes on to say he can't keep himself from speaking his mind, and that he doesn't know why he can't. He submits to punishment, thinking it must be the answer. Following this, he changes to saying he can't just say nothing. He needs to speak, and once he does then he realizes he said something "wrong". Afterward he can't explain his opinion. He blames himself for all of this. Before the song repeats, he gives an example of something he's said. He was trying to lighten up the mood with a joke, but he just makes things worse for the person he's trying to make smile. |

Voltaire has other songs with similar themes, like "The Headless Waltz". This song basically sings about a necrophiliac trying to justify his actions rationally. He's felt so rejected that even girls that can't resist him are comforting emotionally. The message of the song could be summed up as "I'm so unlikable, only a corpse could bear to be near me." The necrophiliac feels this way, and is extolling the virtues of this relationship. "The Headless Waltz", toward the middle, similarly claims the benefits of not having a head and how the singer prefers being headless. Both songs take something obviously bad and claiming the virtues. |

| Ozzy Osbourne – Trap Door Lyrics | 13 years ago |

The song is about how lying is digging your own grave, which is what "can't sleep because you made your own bed" refers to. The truth is depicted as the source of pain for the person in the song, "the truth stabs again". The Judas and Thomas part refers to that person being like a combination of those two, a traitor and someone who won't believe the truth. The song ends with the lies falling apart, and the person being left with nothing anymore. |
