Robert Earl Keen, Jr. – Gringo Honeymoon Lyrics 13 years ago
Sometimes his songs are filled with various imageries, and this song is no different. I believe this is one of those that is designed to convey a real experience of some trip to Mexico with his love that included real experiences of the crossing the river and meeting meeitng the DEA fugitive and the bar with the singer that sounded just like Marty Robbins ( who I also love) and the burros and everything that paints the detail of his picture.

One of my big time favs and whether I cue this up on my Ipod, or, put in a CD, or just simply come across an opportunity to hear this song.... I'll turn it up... tune out the local disrupting noiises, and sing along with my boy.... the King of the sing-along

Robert Earl Keen, Jr. – I'll Be Here for You Lyrics 13 years ago
That's a really cool idea. I know him personally enough to know what a significance being a parent is to him, although I never thought of that as it pertains to this song. whether it is intended to state the commitment of his presence and love to a child or a lover, this song totally makes me always feel an admiration to REK and how he can priortize his love in the face of the rest of life.

Thanks for your perspective. I'm such a fan of his and always love to hear how he has touched others with his vivid poetic imagery.

Robert Earl Keen, Jr. – I'm Comin' Home Lyrics 13 years ago
This song has always had a really special place for my wife and I. We began a long distance relationship while she lived in the exact location mentioned in the song... San Jose/Santa Cruz. In that period, i became a huge fan of KFAT and after that, its' sucessor KPIG, both of which Sleepy john worked at. He was originally a DJ, then station Manager. Totally a cool dude and a major pioneer of music that wasn't top 40 and was targeted to the " Old hippie and bluegrass/ folk country style of stuff and REK was a hugely accepted force once I was living out there and relying on KPIG for my home radio station.

I guess i don't see any symbolic or other meanings here. Just an understandable description of what it's like to be on the road and missing your soulmate and best friend. Not only have I lived this, I just so happened to be involved with the same geogarphic spots as I lived in Texas (like REK) and my wife lived in the Santa Cruz area.

Alwatys reninds me of her, our relationship, and how true love becomes more important that going out to make a deal, or do a gig, or any other method of how we wind up apart from our love and how we look forward to "Coming Home"

peace all

The Rolling Stones – Dead Flowers Lyrics 13 years ago
This was actually a Townes Van Zandt cover of an original song by jagger and Richards. It is a pretty straight forward story pertaining to a woman that was connected enough to use the writers drugs, but who would not profess her love and the writer basically wishes her dead as a result. I believe the dead flowers are what the writers felt they had always received from Suzy who the writer intends to put roses on her grave after she does so he can continue to carry the torch,, so to speak
