" I laid awake in bed and thought of better times. I never want to sleep 'cause I found apathy in laying down and never waking up." Figuratively, obviously. But also a little literal. he knows as much as he wants to sleep away his problems he knows he just can't because it'll lead him to not care anymore. so yeah. he's trying to resist his depression. and he realizes he still has friends to rely on that will help on a brighter, more promising road. "I[figuratively]moved out west" Throughout history, moving west was typical for people to move on with their lives and create a fresh, new one. "in a city where my father was born". seems a little ambiguous to me, but if i would have to, i would say he'll return to something that his past generations have turned to and succeeded in their own lives. uh. well thats my interpretation. hopfully that sparked a fired for some. |

| The Dangerous Summer – Work in Progress Lyrics

I see this song is about how the artist notices how much he is dealing with, the problems he is facing, and how much of a mess he is(all of this may just be depression); and he just can't do it. He is not capable with going through all of this alone, he'll end up not doing anything. "take my hands and keep them busy again"
being that i've been raised with a christian background, I think he is addressing the Almighty, turning to God for help, because he can't deal with his mess alone. He's a work in progress and is relying on God to help him get out of it. |
