Personally, I think this song is about questionable decisions. Knowing what decision you are making and still making it, and then grinning and bearing that knowledge. It can make you a mess, for certain. |

There's something about the words to this song that resonate to my core. I suffer from anxiety and suicidal tendencies. Through all these years there are certain subjects that can instantly bring panic, and it's not typically things you can talk about. I feel like this song is about dreaming and wanting someone you can't have almost no matter what, and even fulfilling your own goals you still can't have it.
"My dreams are haunting my soul". You feel like a shell, because your dreams and nightmares happen, but stay with you all day and cloud your every thought. The second verse referring to wanting to kill yourself to end your suffering and heartache. "I want to let go, I want to shake hands with the person that's responsible for this master plan" to go meet your maker. |

I'm thinking it could either mean a suicide or just the loss of a very good friend or companion. As in, trying to reason with someone to not leave your life only to have the words fall on deaf ears. |

It seems like almost all of this album talks about the people who might have deserted him in a time of need. People he wants but that don't want to stick around for the hard times, those unwilling to give up their self-centered or materialistic ways to help someone out. |

From what I can see, considering the history of the band and the roots of this album itself, this song has a lot to do with regrets in life. Squandering your time instead of living, sacrificing others and their emotions for your own selfishness and then thinking back about what you did. It's both a bitter heartbreak and a want for what you left behind.
It's coming to terms that people do what they want, and there's nothing you can do about that. You won't always make amends or get revenge, but it's also a lament that things should have been different |

Seems like they (the singers) shirk the traditional path that people take. They do their own thing while chastising those who follow in the footsteps of fame and fortune. Everyday people wanting to buy things to show off their status. Celebrities that just want more while doing mediocre work, politicians that want more for less while not helping their fellow man. |

Seems a lot like a song about girls that are lost, run aways or murders. Broken and doomed, they want to go home but the end is in sight. A reassurance that this will all be over tonight and a hope that they can be together with the people in their life in heaven. |
