I think this song could be addressed to the same person as in "song to say goodbye". Both songs refer to someone who seems to be depressive or autodestructive, and who doesn't seem to appreciate what is being done to help him and prefers to keep with his depressive thoughts (bored to be alive,apathy...) than to think on the bright side and try to enjoy life "unaware that not everything is lost". From "a song to say goodbye" I understand the problem is the singer still loves that person, that's the reason why he finds it horrid or hard to see him. But the depressive/autodestructive (maybe drug addict?) person is dragging him down with him, because nothing the singer does to try to help him seems to work, and it's terrible to see how someone you love destroys himself despite your love and efforts to make him better. That's why the singer writes a song to say goodbye. The song to say goodbye video really supports this idea. |

I think this song is rather about someone who doesn't feel safe in the real world, this person faces reality with a lot of insecurity, and therefore, prefers to comfort herself with fantasies instead of dealing with her own problems. In this fantasy world she dreams of ecstatic things, love or whatever...meanwhile she keeps having a chaotic life, probably because she hides from her reality, which she doesn't like, instead of trying to change it. This world is so ecstatic that in comparison, the real one seems boring and depressing, leaving her "numb", uninterested in real things. I see the resemblance with drug addiction though, because constantly dreaming with the life you would like to have, is also a kind of addiction, it all comes down to obssessing yourself with something instead of dealing with your own problems or emptiness or whatever for fear of beeing unable to change things, this is, because of your insecurity. So I think this song is basically about fear, and avoidance of reality. |
