This song is about unrequited love. The speaker believes his love interest is with a crappy guy who doesn't treat her well or respect her. I imagine this guy is the jock type, big muscles, big head, handsome, etc. but he lacks substance. It seems to me that the speaker may be intimidated to physically fight for the girl he loves, he doesn't have the good looks or status that the other guy has. But he does have something more important: his songs. Maybe he also isn't really confident in his ability to write fantastic poetry or catchy songs. But he tells himself that it doesn't have to be a super complex ballad with clever lyrics. It can be a straightforward song, two notes and a beat. This song pumps him up to express this true feelings through music. Starting with something simple, the lyrics start to flow and he actually ends up with some beautiful words, and it all started with those two notes and a beat. In my interpretation, the guy sings his song to the girl he likes, and she ends up leaving the douchebag guy. |

This song is about a relationship and learning from past mistakes and not letting the past affect your future. "Keep in mind the last time, but don't forget the first time" There was a reason you started your relationship in the first time. Just because it may not be the same as it was when you started or you may be coming across difficult times, you have to remember why you started in the first place. "Go if you want to go, stay well you never know" This is encouraging the listener to keep trying and working on your relationsship. If you stay and wallow in this misery of your current situation, you'll never know what could have been. It may be dark for you and your significant other right now but "day will come rise again". "In a perfect world, there would be no divide" Yes, if everything were perfect, we would completely and totally understand each other. But that's not the case. We live in a broken world, and personal, deep relationships are some of the most complex things we deal with in our existence. It is not going to be easy. What matters is getting through the dark times, remembering that day will come again, and reminding yourself that there is no such thing as a perfect relationship/person so stop looking for that. |

This song speaks of the hurt, reconciliation, and renewal of a relationship between two lovers. The first verse describes the singer's remorse at pushing away someone he cared deeply for, in spite of his true feelings of love for that person. The one who he has pushed away wants to forgive him for whatever he did to push her away, and she wants things to go back to the way they were as she is dealing with the hurt of his past mistakes and is figuring out if she wants the relationship to continue. He begins to realize his folly and promises to be with her in any form regardless of her decision about continuing the relationship i.e. even if they were to break up, he still would cherish her and care for her. In order to win her back, he apologizes for his mistakes and makes a promise to never hurt her again. Although he makes this promise, he knows his own limitations and weaknesses and admits that despite his best intentions, he will eventually upset her again. Despite their somewhat rocky and tumultuous relationship, it's clear to see from the tonality Chris sings with and the lyrics the uses, that the two people in this song are deeply, truly in love. That no matter what differences they may have, they know that there is a deep, meaningful connection between them. After all, it's easiest to see the "Sparks" when surrounded by darkess. I admit that this is a very personal and subjective interpretation of the song, as I believe it mirrors my long-term relationship with my current fiance. We went through our difficulties, but we just have that undeniable connection that whatever mistakes we make, there will always be those sparks between us, encouraging us to fight the good fight of true love. |
