Linkin Park – Lost In The Echo Lyrics 11 years ago
(Yeah) (Yo)
You were that foundation
Never gonna be another one, no
I followed, so taken
So conditioned I could never let go
Then sorrow, then sickness
Then the shock when you flip it on me
So hollow, so vicious
So afraid I couldn't let myself see
That I could never be held
Back up, no, I'll hold myself
Check the rep, yep you know my rail
Forget the rest let them know my hell
Damn, I'm back yep, my soul ain't sell,
Kept respect up the vets stay their,
Let the rest be to tell they tale
That I was there saying

In my opinion, I believe that this song is about someone who is abused or just disrespected from people who are considered to hold more importance in this world, than him. I also believe that the disrespected person also once dreamed of becoming one of those important people until he realized that he was wrong.

The first few lines show how the person longed to become someone respected in the society, and how blind he (It could be a she) had been, to admire such beings.

Then he states the shock he felt, when he came to know that, for every bad thing, all the blame was aimed at the lower class, including him. But he was so scared and so fearful of the higher class that he couldn't stand up for himself.

That he couldn't convince himself (before) that he couldn't be held back, he couldn't be accused of problems that he had no fault in, that he was an independent man who had his own rights.

He wanted everyone to know how much he had suffered, how much every person in the lower class had suffered, because of the higher class.

They had did their best to keep up their respect but it's time for it to fall. After this, the higher class will make even more excuses for their actions but they will just be more lies, won't they?

The only words he'll have to hang onto are:

And these promises broken
Deep, feeble
Each word gets lost in the echo
So one last lie I can see through
This time I finally let you
Go, go, go

And once again these promises are broken, but it doesn't matter because they were fragile and weak, from the day they were made.
The promises refer to the ones the people of the higher class had made to their families. That they wold earn them respect and that, whatever they earn will be earned with honesty and handwork, but in reality, all the burden is on the lower class.

"Each word gets lost in the echo" This refers to the fact that when an induidual (from the higher class) makes a promise, it won't mean a thing, because that promise will get lost in the millions of voices that commited the same thing but it was never meant to be true, anyway.

But in this world full of lies, I still see one commitment that might hold a bit of truth. That this war will never make peace, so it's time for the lower class to let go and have faith, that the higher class will fall apart, one day. So, we have to make the best of what we have today, satifying ourselves with the knowledge that, even though some things cannot be changed, no one can hold us back from who we are.

Test my will
Test my heart
Let me tell you how the odds gonna stack up
Y'all go hard
I go smart
How's that working out for y'all in the back huh?
I've seen that frustration
Been crossed and lost, and told no
And I've come back, unshaken
Let down and lived and let go
So you can let it be known
I don't hold back
I hold my own
I can't be mapped
I can't be cloned
I can't C-flat
It ain't my tone
I can't fall back, I came too far
Hold myself up and love my scars
Let the bells ring wherever they are
Cause I was there saying

Do what ever you want but you can't change a thing. Actually, allow me to demonstrate, what'll really happen. You will strike as hard as you can but we'll stay strong and patient, and when you ask us how much pain you're causing us, we won't let even the sightest whimper escape from our mouths. This will anger you. But what you don't realise is that we've been through that stage and we have all been furious because of your demands. But we made it through without a scratch because our problems have gave us strenghth, and taught us to ignore and let go. So you should know, that we can't be forced do anyting that is beyond what we are capable of. And we won't let anything that simple shatter us. Because we're the one's who know:

In these promises broken deep below
Each word gets lost in the echo
So one last lie I can see through
This time I finally let you
Go

No, you can tell 'em all now
I don't back up
I don't back down
I don't fold up and I don't bow
I don't roll over
Don't know how
I don't care where they enemies are
Can't be stopped, all I know is go hard
Won't forget how I got this far
For every time I'm saying

So, I just every person to know that you don't own us. No body does. We cannot be controlled. We won't bow down and surrender to you and, we don't care who is good or who is bad. All we know is that we own ourselves and we are all (lower and higher class, both) equal. And we won't forget how much we struggled before, because we still hold on to the truth. That we are a part of this world.

We won't forget.

In these promises broken deep below
Each word gets lost in the echo
So one last lie I can see through
This time I finally let you
Go

Hope you like it. Just to let you know, I'm 13 and English isn't my first language, but I've tried my best to interpret his beautiful song. It's one of my favourites, too.

A little note:
To me, this song best describes the siuations which involve economy, abuse and any stage which involve unequality.
