| Om – At Giza Lyrics | 10 years ago |
| Maybe the segment of swans ascending is a reference to the verse 91 of the Dhammapada: "They (Arhat) depart with their thoughts well-collected, they are not happy in their abode; like swans who have left their lake, they leave their house and home." | |
| Agalloch – ...and the Great Cold Death of the Earth Lyrics | 12 years ago |

"Life is a clay urn on the mantle And I am shattered on the floor" That's pretty much my favorite metaphor in a song. The urn in which life is said to be is made out of clay, as any form of life is very vulnerable to be destroyed or injured. It dwells in an urn as it is doomed to have an inevitable end. And finally, the urn is on a mantle because all living things dwell in the 'temple' of Earth, which is regarded as a precious think, something that must be taken care of, just like a mantle that is usually correlated to valuable things. When the person says that is shattered on the floor, I presume that she has died on the inside, no longer having interest in living. John Haughn shows his expertise as a lyricist in many ways, but I've found one that might be worth pointing out: He uses 4 synonyms for a word in the phrase after "Life is a clay urn on the mantle": shattered, scattered, fragments and ashes. To me it underlines his cautious work writing, putting a lot of thought into them, "We are the wounds and the great cold death of the Earth." The message it basically wants to convey is that we - humans - are the ones responsible for Earth's decay, dysharmony and gradual destruction. We shouldn't inhabit this land, we don't belong here. "Earth is floating on the waters like an island, Hanging from four rawhide ropes" Once again, our planet is perceived as fragile, it can easily be swallowed in the depths of death - so to speak-. (It is just suspended by 4 ropes) "Darkness and silence, the light shall flicker out" By this moment, Earth is approaching its end and the album meets its demise. (Desolation Song is outside the structure, it's just there as a bonus if you will. That, however, doesn't make it any worse than all the others in this Magnum Opus - The Mantle.) |

| Agalloch – A Celebration For The Death Of Man... Lyrics | 12 years ago |
| The first seconds of the album couldn't have been better: An amazing deep and dark drum sequence (just 3 beats) and then the beautiful acoustic strumming. What I found interesting was that those two are repeated on the next track. Following up, an exquisite arrange of instruments and background noises arise, adding up depth and complexity to this short, nevertheless powerful song that drives all your attention to its imminent appocalipse-like melodies -what happen to be the heart and soul of the album. | |
| Agalloch – Sowilo Rune Lyrics | 12 years ago |

That's the most soothing song from Agalloch. You rarely find this nicely arranged blend of pianos, acoustic guitars, violins and a nice bassy instrument at the bottom (sorry for not knowing its name, but it just adds up greatly to the song ). The whispering vocals are one of my favorites from this amazing band, along with a similar one in Desolation Song. I really think they should release more albums with this awesome singing. As for the lyrics, I'm looking forward to a full explanation, apart from the dialogue in the end. |

| Agalloch – Our Fortress Is Burning... II - Bloodbirds Lyrics | 12 years ago |

It seems to me that the theme of this song is similar to the one in "...And The Great Cold Death Of The Earth" from their previous album The Mantle. The message it wants to convey is that we are intruders on this Earth, and the ones responsible for its destruction. They both depict the world, possibly not in a distant future, perishing and falling because of the depredation of environment by man. Basically, humanity is against the rules and the will of nature. In the end, the world meets its inevitable bitter end. "We are the wounds and the great cold death of the earth Darkness and silence, the lights shall flicker out." |

| Agalloch – I Am The Wooden Doors Lyrics | 12 years ago |
|
This song, unlike most of the others from the album The Mantle, has a glimmer of hope. I've been listening to it when I face difficulties and it is good to remind myself that no matter how bad things are, there's still a grandeur deep inside that remains untainted. There are hidden forces that can make you succeed. Anyway, to me the lyrics in this song are ingenius, the metaphors are beautiful and very impressive. The lyric work in this song and "..And The Great Cold Death Of The Earth" are the best in the album. However, when I say the best, I don't place the others much below. All of them are unique and I consider them masterpieces. When the wooden doors are mentioned, It seems to me that they are metaphorically the will and the spirit, as it is said in the ending. We must not seek the people who are lost in despair to release this good-natured spirit and to make sure the will that keeps you moving on doesn't perish and vanish. The tone in this song not happy at all, but this the song that struck me as the most motivational I've listened to. |

| Opeth – To Bid You Farewell Lyrics | 12 years ago |
| Whenever I listen to this song I have the impression that it could last longer, it seems like it ends all of a sudden. Superb song anyway. The jazz guitar part is just awesome, can't stop listening. The acoustic guitars are great, just like in most of Opeth's songs, but this one is especial. The heavy part is utter awesomeness as well. | |
