| another thing i just thought of that i need to add! it says "but you wanna know how it ends?" ... "go and ask the milkman" as i said Billy's the real, official milkman and he would also be the only one to know the story, and the PCB song is narrated by Billy! and it is kind of a conclusion. and it also kind of clarifies. and although in pcb it says the milkman came in late last night, he is referring to his bro, as i said. in in this song it does allude to an ending, but does not come out and say it, because the narrator them self is making an inference, cuz face it two people just got killed, they probably booked it, or at least got kicked out by the family, or may have just been peeping in a window; they dont know the ending for sure, but they do know a lot more than most, and probably/ most likely witnessed it firsthand. plus billy's family left to TN immediately. and pcb gives a sure conclusion, because it is being given in the first hand account of billy. and even if some try and argue its being told by billy's bro, it's still of someone who was there, and a conclusion. | |

ok i have it! i think. firstly, none of the characters mentioned in the song are the narrator, the narrator is a separate entity, an onlooker. second, it clearly is linked to the pickens county band song ask the milkman. they are signed by bigger room records, video uploaded by lonely consoler, and many other relations that have already been listed and easily found. i would also like to mention that jack white deffinatley doesnt sing in any of their songs. also ask the milkman is narrated by billy. next the priest isnt the biological father of anyone, he is being called daddy and pa because he is a religious "father". he is helping to take care of billy's family. probably because billy is poor and his mom is in a bad situation. also the priest/father does die, in the pcb song it says it was the last time he saw his pa, also it says that he met him on sunday, the Sabbath day. the priest is also symbolic. in pcb it says daddy's been gone so long, referring to faith, maybe even happiness, or if he was supporting them, their lives. so maybe back to CD the boyfriend was, in a way killing them, as a family, and billy was sick and tired, pushed to his limits. and in pcb it says theyre gunna go over the hill to nashville to find somewhere he belongs. billy felt wrong in that house, and probably disappointed his mother was with/still with a guy like that. in pcd and cd it is clear the boyfriend is abusive. also in pcb it keeps repeating this dont feel right, but it sure dont feel wrong, referring to killing the boyfriend. i also think the role of the milkman is unclear. with man you think someone older, but thats not necessarily the case. it could very well have been a boy, billy's little brother. billy could drive the truck because billy's too young. it could be a family truck or something, or not. also it doesnt make sense for the priest to also be the milkman, like he's the priest. he could be the dad and the milkman, but why call him a priest? and i just dont feel the narrator was drunk. maybe the mom was having an affair w/ the milkman, but billy being in a truck, and other things mentioned leaves loose ends and stuff. maybe they called him a priest because he was religious or always saying to do things, and be good and stuff. but still it doesnt add up. plus billy's bro being the milkman would explain the hat in his hand. also i think maybe it's billy's job to be the milkman, but he lets his bro do it cuz the bro wants to. also billy woke up from a hang over, but his bro got to some left over gin and got drunk. the hangover also contributed to billy throwing up. also in pcb it says the milkman delivers the milk, but the door's locked, but he gets to walk away. the door is still locked from when billy locked it. and though the door may have been locked before perhaps billy had to fight w/ himself to even go in because he hated his situation so much, he probably went back for his mom and brother. but now he watched as his brother is leaving the milk, and he gets to leave this time the door is locked, because he can take his bro. also in pcb, it says the milkman came home late last night, momma let him in and turned out the light. billys little bro probably ran away when he walked in to that horrible scene, maybe came back when he worked of his shock, horror, and drunkenness. also the narrator referring to go and ask the milkman means ask billy. billy is the real milkman. he just lets his bro do it, plus his bro was drunk when it happened and may not remember. the priest and boyfriend died. the mother was blocking it out and probably too traumatized to even be reliable. also billys bro could have been trying to do the rounds cuz billy was passed out. or maybe he just got the milk and only left it there for now. to explain cold milk plus maybe the boyfriend attacked the priest cuz he didnt want someone else supporting his gf. plus he could have been drunk. i also think the priest symbolizes the rejection of righteousness or ignorance. they keep asking why he came, and not really wanting him there, but still he goes. or maybe they dont want his help because they dont want to feel poor. that doesnt feel right but it sure doesnt feel wrong. that could also go w/ accepting the money. plus i think billy knew the priest was supporting them, knew but never actually met. he was ashamed, so he never wanted to be there when he was giving them money. also he knew the man getting beat to a, perhaps unrecognizable, pulp was his 'daddy'. or maybe the priest wasnt giving them money out of charity or niceness, maybe he was having an affair w/ the mom. thats why the bf beat him. and why the mom couldnt even cry and cant even watch. shes not crying just a ghost cuz he dies, she cant be supported, and shes kind of happy. and she cant watch cuz shes ashamed and she does actually want it to happen. and maybe she cant tell the story cuz she changes it. she may lead on that the bf was wrong, but it could really have been the priest. or that she wasnt having an affair. and maybe billy new the priest was w/ his mom and was even more ashamed. so maybe the priest was a biological father. also they would want he father to get a proper burial whether he be a priest or dad. also they would want to go to TN from SC to hide their secret. also billy knowing everything that really goes on but just being to ashamed would also explain how he knows the truth it is also worth stating that this song is a biased narrative, so it could be changed. wow thought i knew but as i was writing and thinking my mind just kept delving deeper and getting blown, and coming up w/ new theories. jack clearly did this on purpose, but now hopefully its narrowed down to a few possibilities. conclusion: priest: religious father-giving money out of charity. religious and biological father having affair w/ mom in trade for the money, or perhaps child support. boyfriend: killed by billy out of hatred and kills priest because of affair or financial support w/ girlfriend. billy: kills bf out of frustration, anger, pushed to limit and over, buries body, goes to TN to start new. ashamed of priest some way or other. job as milkman, maybe just drives truck. knows the whole truth billys little brother: works with brother and probably looks up to him. drank billys gin, not reliable in telling of the story mother: possibly having affair w/ priest, definatly accepting money from him, which none like. i think thats pretty much it there are so many possibilities. |
