I've always felt this was an unspoken promise to someone he had loved,but the relationship,didn't work out. Maybe she(or HE) are in a new relationship even,but seeing each other,there's that old familiar SPARK of attraction. it's those STRINGS that are still somewhat attached to the past when things were good between the two persons. Maybe it's that smile,or that LOOK, that they give,which may be, an acknowledgement, that says,"yes,there is still a special place for you,still,in my heart." |

What the song means to me,is that,you've reached a point in a relationship,or a situation,where enough is enough. No matter how hard you try to make it work,it's just not going to happen. Throwing up hands in frustration yet berating ones self for doing so. "Yeah,you're a loser now". Hard to admit defeat when you wanted so much for things to work out. |

This song is one of my favorites by The Smiths. I always felt it was speaking of anyone who has been casted aside by someones ignorance and or cowardice. I like how the narrator is saying,despite how you may feel about me,"I'd still take a bullet for you". Finally after all attempts of trying to REASON with this person,the narrator will no longer apologize for who he is. |

Well, I'm an old guy(46) and have been displeased with today's music overall,BUT there have been some very good expections,of late. FUN,with this song in particular is one of those.
The lyrics take me back to a time of my youth,with friends,maybe running into an ex love or someone you crushed on but things just didn't work out,but fuck it. Tonight,we are young,for we are "immortal" and time is on our side.We can be whomever or whatever we want to be. Living within the moments,whether they be joyfully induced by alcohol or what have you,just know that I'm going to be here for you. Being with your mates,and just having good company,there's no better feeling. |
