Soundgarden – Nothing to Say Lyrics 10 years ago
I was just listening to it thinking maybe it's based on (maybe) Chris Cornell as a very young recording artist getting shit from record execs or producers asking what their (or his) music is "about". Are they just a one-trick pony?

"Do you guys just have this dark, brooding, muddy, sludgy, loud sound with screaming and wailing vocals? Is that all you guys do? Is that all you have to say?"

Maybe someone actually told him "You've got nothing to say... but the one thing." And then at the end, he keeps repeating and screaming "NOTHING!" But I started to hear it like he was screaming, "'Nothing'?! That 'one thing' is more than enough! That's why we're here! This 'one thing', this mood, this brooding, sludgy, grunge sound is what we're here to give the world. Don't call it 'nothing'!"

Probably way off, but that's just one interpretation that came to me as I was listening to it.

¡¡¡Viva El Jardín del Sonido!!!

Steely Dan – Pretzel Logic Lyrics 12 years ago
As stated in previous posts, I gotta say I'm totally intrigued and inspired by the thought of this song being about time travel.

Examples:

I'd love to (someday - in the future) tour the southland in a traveling minstrel show (a thing that generally no longer exists in the present).

I've never met Napoleon (a famous historical figure from hundreds of years ago, now long dead), but I'd love to find the time (in the future).

I'm dying to (someday, in the future)... Sound just like a record on the phonograph (a device that, even by 1974, was pretty much an antique).

They tell me [Napoleon] was lonely (in the distant past), he's lonely stil
l (now... in the present... accessible to the past?)

"Where did you get those shoes?" - (Think of Marty McFly in Back To The Future III - with his Nike's on in the old west.)

To me, "Pretzel Logic" isn't metaphorically "twisted" logic, it's "thinking 4th dimensionally" as Doc Brown would say. It's about thinking about time not as a linear thing, but as a twisted, interconnecting string of events that can be revisited when that event "comes around" again, as one part of the pretzel twists and passes another part.

Just go watch "Primer", "Time Crimes", "BTTF" or "Bill & Ted's Excellent Adventure"! or read Kurt Vonnegut's "Slaughterhouse Five"! You'll get it! ;)

Replying to your comment, now 7 years and 6 days into the future, because I only really listened to the lyrics to this song for the first time today. That was the impression I got, too - time travel! - and it has inspired me to do some research. Thank you for corroborating my theory, commenter from the past!

You're wrong. I believe it says "sewn the same" in the liner notes, and it means sewn like when "you reap what you sew" as in sewing (planting) seeds into soil. Therefore, "you and I are sewn the same" means, like, we come from the same background or have come up in similar situations in life.
