City and Colour – Day Old Hate Lyrics 13 years ago
Doesn't anyone think this has to do with one-night stands? think about it. the idea of the morning after, the 'day old hate' that comes after a night that was a mistake in hindsight but made sense at the time.
'It was never what you wanted, it was fun to pretend' - that they sought comfort from each other, but it was not something that was meant to happen - that their feelings for each other are more complicated than friendship or romantic love.
They could have conversation or she could shatter his feelings before he rolls over and goes back to sleep - he probably feels more for her than she for him.
She probably has poor self-image that he's playing on, and hurting her the way she's hurt him in the past. If they're friends it makes sense that he's talking about everything going up in flames, because you can't always go back from sleeping with a friend.
So he's made her feel worthless by telling her he used her body, even when he feels a lot more, but he also shows her how safe he can make her feel - like a last ditch attempt to prove he's worth it.
those are the things we do just to stay alive and feel wanted and loved. I think :)
