"...The cold hearted boy I used to be" Am I the only one who hears "gold-hearted boy" instead? |

@[Jodeo:36440] Did he perform "Worse than Detroit" at the same show? |

| Lenny Kravitz – Sister Lyrics | 5 years ago |
| No idea what is being referenced. But at least the usual suspects got their cameos: man, God, "sister", America, and the ever-popular devil in-your-face. | |

| I'm too high/tired/negligent to read through 6 pages of comments. So I'll just give y'all the benefit of the doubt. | |

| Dire Straits – News Lyrics | 10 years ago |

I had no idea that this song was about motoring until I reached this page. (I thought that it was about addiction.) |
| Dire Straits – Telegraph Road Lyrics | 10 years ago |
@[Prime_Knight:3126] The "Money For Nothing" live version is actually ~12:00 long, and a remix of a live version that appeared on the double live album entitled "Alchemy: Dire Straits Live", which was recorded during the "Love Over Gold" concert tour. |

| Procol Harum – A Salty Dog Lyrics | 11 years ago |
Also, the 3 stanzas are in chronological order: 1. The journey (life) 2. The "event" (death) 3. The destination (the afterlife) |
| Procol Harum – A Salty Dog Lyrics | 11 years ago |
@[fullmoon2000:700] Sounds like a relatively accurate interpretation to me. However, I think the term "witness" refers to the hand itself (there should be no comma in the line). |
| Soundgarden – Black Hole Sun Lyrics | 11 years ago |
I always thought that this song was about a black-hole sun that would come and wash away the rain. (I guess you can't win them all.) |
| Soundgarden – Tighter & Tighter Lyrics | 11 years ago |
| Most of these comments are just "blowing smoke and talking wind". | |
| Supertramp – You Started Laughing Lyrics | 11 years ago |
"It's just a little ditty..." I read "ditty" as "dirty". (Isn't that a fair exchange?) |
| Pink Floyd – Us and Them Lyrics | 11 years ago |
This song is about the futility of ambition, especially the futility of war. "It can't be helped" "The old man died" It is analogous to the song "Cul-de-Sac" by Genesis (namely Tony Banks), which compares ambition to a dead-end street, which is, at best, inefficient and counter-productive. "None can see at all" "Maybe some escape -- no, not even one" The Duke album by Genesis also features a song called "Behind the Lines", which is ostensibly about relationship. However, the song contains many references to ambition, and the futility thereof. "I'm losing all control" "I'm slipping away" "It's written in the book" |
| Pink Floyd – Us and Them Lyrics | 11 years ago |
Also, I interpreted "Down and out" as a reference to death, an inevitable consequence of war. "There's a lot of it about." |
| Genesis – Cul-de-Sac Lyrics | 11 years ago |
This song reminds me of Us & Them by Pink Floyd. It is about the futility of ambition, especially the futility of war. "How can you fight a foe so deadly When you don't even know it's there?" (That question reminds me of the war against bed bugs.) "Maybe some escape -- no, not even one" |
| Genesis – Behind The Lines Lyrics | 11 years ago |
"Behind The Lines" is a point on a logical circle. "All is fair in love and war." --> The book of love --> (To read) between the lines --> Behind the lines (war reference) --> [repeat logic] |
| Genesis – Please Don't Ask Lyrics | 11 years ago |
Tight track. It's authentic, and full of candour. As Phil would say: "good as gold". |
| Genesis – Home By The Sea Lyrics | 11 years ago |
| Aren't all houses haunted? | |
| Monster Magnet – Temple Of Your Dreams Lyrics | 12 years ago |
| Isn't this song about dispelling myths and disputing false beliefs? | |
| R.E.M. – Try Not To Breathe Lyrics | 12 years ago |
I think that this song is about voluntary euthanasia. Also, I am fascinated by the concept of flying over one's own grave. It seems much more noble than digging it. |
| Tool – The Pot Lyrics | 12 years ago |
| Is "weeping shades of cozened indigo" similar to "crying me a river"? | |
| Tool – The Grudge Lyrics | 12 years ago |
| I think "one or ten" means "all or nothing". In other words, "no compromise", "my way or the highway", etc. | |
| Tool – Jambi Lyrics | 12 years ago |
| I think it's "Dim my eyes", not "Damn my eyes". | |
| Steve Winwood – Wake Me Up On Judgment Day Lyrics | 12 years ago |
"Listen to the stranger" In today's world of xenophobia and individualism, these are wise words. Maybe some of us should wake up before judgement day. |
| Supertramp – Two of Us Lyrics | 12 years ago |
| I interpreted the line "I'm building dreams in a stranger's land" as going to America to record material, tour, and do whatever else A&M Records asked them to do there. | |
| Pink Floyd – Us and Them Lyrics | 12 years ago |
| I didn't interpret "the old man" as a beggar. I interpreted it as a man who is never satisfied with what he has. | |
| Pink Floyd – Us and Them Lyrics | 12 years ago |
| I interpreted "Black and blue" as a subtle reference to racism. | |
| Genesis – Am I Very Wrong? Lyrics | 13 years ago |
I didn't interpret "the happiness machine" as "endless partying". I interpreted it as the generally-accepted, or "normal", pattern of life. That is, if you enter the machine, and be subject to all of its processes - school, a good job, marriage, etc. - then you will exit the machine as a happy person. In my humble opinion, this is the real "never ending lie". |
