Breaking Benjamin – Evil Angel Lyrics 13 years ago
I agree with ShallowBayBandit to an extent, but would actually like to expand upon a few things. I believe the first verse and chorus are from Jesus's point of view, and the second verse and chorus are from Judas's point of view. I am not a Christian though. And like ShallowBayBandit said, Ben isn't a Christian, so this probably isn't what he had in mind when he wrote the song, it's just what seems right to me.

"Hold it together, birds of a feather
Nothing but lies and crooked wings"

Jesus is saying that all Christians need to stick together, because they have many enemies.

"I have the answer, spreading the cancer"

Jesus wants his disciples to spread the Word. Don't get why its cancer, but oh well.

"You are the faith inside me"

This is Jesus talking to his Father, God.

"No, don't leave me to die here, help me survive here alone, don't remember, remember"

This is Jesus on the cross, pleading with God to help him, and then believing God has forgotten him. Didn't mention at the beginning, but my interpretation doesn't exactly follow religious cannon; it's more like the alternate ending of how it could have gone wrong.

"Put me to sleep Evil Angel
Open your wings Evil Angel"

Believing his Father has forgotten him on the cross, Jesus turns to the Evil Angel (AKA the Devil) for comfort.

"I'm a believer, nothing could be worse"

Judas talking here, regretting being a disciple.

"All these imaginary friends"

He believes that God is not real, that He's an "imaginary friend"

"Hiding betrayal, driving the nail"

Obviously referring to Judas's betrayal

"Hoping to find a savior"

Judas wishing for a savior

"No, don't leave me to die here, help me survive here alone, don't surrender, surrender"

Judas regretting betraying Jesus, wishing he had his savior back.

"Put me to sleep Evil Angel, open your wings Evil Angel, fly over me Evil Angel, why can't I breathe Evil Angel?"

Judas also turns to the Devil for comfort.

Last is both of them.

Once again, this is only my interpretation, and is almost certainly not correct. I will probably get a lot of hate from Christians for interpreting this song as Jesus giving up, but this is only how I see it, not how you have to see it.
