Crowded House – Love You 'Til the Day I Die Lyrics 6 years ago
I ... am ... gobsmacked (I know that's not a New Zealand expression but it still fits).

I looked at the lyrics for the first time today.

I've LOVED this song since I heard it; it's one of my favorites, from any artist.

"I believe in doing things until it hurts" is actually, "I believe in doing things backwards".

Neil Finn is unquestionably my favorite artist although I've never completely understood him and his lyrics. I've always thought it was a translation thing (NZ to US English) or that he's artistic and I'm an engineer; creative endeavors, orthogonal to each other.

The lyric "Frost on the windowpane, the sound of pouring rain, all make me glad of you" in it's melodious harmony made me believe what that's what the song is about. Being in a place which is "Nice Safe Warm and Dry" (NSWD) while miserable weather exists outside... thinking about things that make me comfortable while she (my SO) is away (I always heard it as "though you are far away from me"... but that's not ~at all~ the actual lyric)

But this song is not about thinking about a loved one at all. It sounds like its about a psycho obsessed with someone he favors.

This song I've always romantically favored for it's beautiful "frost on the windowpane" lyric, is actually a discordant history of a psycho.

It's like finding out what Sting's "Every Breath You Take Take" actually means.

Train – Idaho Lyrics 8 years ago
"Washington, Montana, North Dakota, Minnesota, Michigan, New York, Vermont, New Hampshire, Massachusetts."

That's the last chorus line as the song ends. And it's not (yet) in any search engine anywhere... and needs to be.

(I live in New Hampshire... and it counts).

Sia – Beautiful Calm Driving Lyrics 8 years ago
I am my true self when driving. And I don't drive well. I'm aggressive and vengeful. (Sorry, fellow New England drivers.... but screw you should you encounter me). I jest... mostly.

I think this song has the singer recognizing the inner truth of a her partner and rationalizing ... perhaps for her safety, or the sake of the relationship.

The truth is there, in the under current. My rational self will tell whatever truth is necessary to survive. You have "Beautiful Calm Driving" but I know the truth.

La Roux – Reflections Are Protection Lyrics 12 years ago
First heard this on Google Play "I'm feeling lucky" this evening.

Until the bridge, I thought for sure this was a Citizen Cope cover. (Wrong... I was very very wrong). Still, I hear Citizen Cope.

Alex Clare – Too Close Lyrics 13 years ago
And, I can't help hearing the theme for the "The IT Crowd" wrapped up in there. It's a complete distraction and has nothing to do with the song but, none-the-less, it's friggin' in there. (Yes, I did say friggin'. It was warranted. This song really pisses me off... but I still like it (the song))

Loved the song since I heard it (From the Internet Explorer commercial).

However...

This song is a total cop-out.

"I'm not one to break promises" "Too close to love you." "At the end of the day, you're still my best friend." "So, I'll be on my way"

As a guy, I'm thinking, this is all total bullshit. It's a song for a guy who's thinking "I've used and abused, and now I'm done. I'm outa here. Here's my canned response. Leave the key in the ashtray when you depart/get-the-hell-out."

It really pisses me off... but it's a great song.
