When I hear this song I think of someone who’s struggling with something internally - in regards to matters of the heart especially. This person has been through so much negativity, hurt and mistrust within a previous relationship of their life that it’s left them vulnerable and insecure. “Cause everybody wants to get away sometimes and everybody needs mistakes” makes me think that this hurt we come from is something that we don’t want to deal with and a place we no longer want to be but we need those mistakes in our lives in order to grow. “When the sun breaks over the edge of an English Town” is essentially saying that the sun is starting to shine on this person and it’s pulling them away from all of the bad that they’ve previously come from. This person doesn’t know why “this sun” is pulling them out of it but they know that they’re no longer going back to the dark place within themselves. They don’t need the intimacy of someone to know that this person is good for them and that they’re helping them find a better, happier, brighter place within themselves and in life again — they just know. This “new person” is a voice that can “lead you out” of the darkness but “cannot, change it” This person can’t change the other individuals past, but they can help shine a light on them and pull them through it and show them that it’s okay to love again. (I hope my words make sense to you) but this is my portrayal of the song especially because I feel this is something I’m dealing with right now. |
