Awolnation – Sail Lyrics 13 years ago
Much appreciated. My only question is regarding how you interpreted it to a specific relationship or love interest? I am struggling to see this angle. For me, I viewed the song as an overall cry and expression of life/daily struggle. How we show our love, in my opinion, doesn't feel to match our realities in our own hearts/minds. It is certainly within relationships with partners, but I think it's in all our relationships. Perhaps, it is my ADD. I totally missed this angle of a specific external relationship. I also view the sail to be giving in as its what we really want to do and ultimately we dont seem to have any choice. Maybe we only sail a few hours a day. Maybe we sail a few days a week. Maybe we sail for months-year (if reality meets dream) I'm 32 so I don't know what life will be in another 20 years compared to this many years and how my mind has progressed so far, but I suppose a day may come that I am dreaming about sailing forever. Once again, thanks so much for the input!!

I agree the majority of the population that claims to have ADD does not. As someone with the disorder, it's just another layer of difficulty in life. First, it is overly diagnosed to children, and only recently recognized to be as much as an adult disorder as child disorder. Why? Those of us really with it never change, and we have been programmed this way since birth. Then, you have all of those that see a few traits on a list that they think they can relate to, and then claim they have it as well. Thus, the population you speak about is walking around stating they have the disorder, yet not seemingly understanding what it's really like at all. What does that mean for the rest of us? We remain very misunderstood. I also think there is a lot not diagnosed walking around. The truth is we really aren't the kind of people that seek help very much, and try to figure how to manage on our own. Most of us were forced into learning the diagnosis by social issues, or adults learn after years of struggle/depression/other disorders that leads them to learning. Also, many people with ADD that are not diagnosed do have alcohol and drug dependencies because it is a method to manage, and it is lucky for them to learn through seeking help for that if it comes to be. So, I wanted to reply that I do not take offense to your comment at all, but rather support it.

I also like your statement about your friend. A friend sent me this song. The first time I listen to the words I didn't need to question if the writer was ADD or not. Through curiosity from reading these blogs and people discussing drugs, I decided to research about whether he is in fact ADD or not. What I found was he states in several interviews that he is in fact ADD. He also chooses to not medicate in any form.

Thanks, again!!!
