Mumford & Sons – Dust Bowl Dance Lyrics 12 years ago
"Dust Bowl Dance" directly refers to the Dust Bowl during the Great Depression. Marcus Mumford also said that it's based on the Grapes of Wrath, which is a novel about the Dust Bowl and Great Depression. Not much else to it. Crazy the ideas the pop into peoples minds about the meanings of songs! It's truly just a song.

Mumford & Sons – Timshel Lyrics 12 years ago
Nicely put, but that's reading way too much into it. It's all based on the novel East of Eden by John Steinbeck. Marcus Mumford accounts for this in an interview..

Parachute – Philadelphia Lyrics 13 years ago
my thought is this is a song about cheating. I could be completely wrong, but that seems to be the prevailing theme. To me, this guy's in Philly on a business trip of sorts and he meets this girl. They go out a few times, have a few drinks, and he's slowly "sliding" down the slope of infidelity. She thought it would last, that love overcomes whatever commitments he's into, but that just not the case. I think the part where "sometimes its the demons that are standing in the end" are the choices they've both made. That "love" doesn't always overcome. She was in love, he had an affair. Goes back home, the girl's a "million miles away" and he's back with his wife, living with the choice he made.
