I think the song is about someone who has died reaching out to someone they loved, who was also loved by, and who they hurt during their life. When you lose someone so close you remember all the good. But in reality if you were to see eachother all the same issues would still be there. I think most people can relate to it in a pass relationship tense, and grief comes with that, but with death, it's final. And I think the lyics convey it best: "Be still my heart, I'm only a moment away In the next room or at the break of day And I would walk, once again to see your face again And I'd hear every word you'd have to say" For them to walk again, to see their face again. And for them being so closse but not within reach. I think it reflects upon all the words that were never said or closure that never came. I also see it as a nod to Beethoven's Immortal Beloved letter. Which of course deals with the same thing... |
