Condoms used to be illegal in the Republic of Ireland but freely available in the UK including Belfast. Madame George is a woman, maybe a trans woman, who smuggles them from Belfast to Dublin to distribute. Possibly selling them at a markup. "The glove the love", "the bag", etc are puns about condoms. When she has to throw them out the window to avoid a vice raid they resemble pennies thrown off the train which was a practice of Protestants riding the train between Dublin and Belfast. |

It's a song about thinking about someone you miss who you still have romantic feelings for (maybe an ex, maybe just someone you'd wanted to be with). "Wonder Years" is a reference to the 1980s (set in 1960s) sitcom, one of the big themes of the series was the nostalgically depicted romance between Kevin and Winnie which didn't work out. |
