Could be a bias as I'm a transwoman whom surgery saved, but I feel that (at least with the video) it strongly suggests the change is an uplifting one and in the right direction. Theres a heavy juxtaposition of loneliness, dark colours, and sadness in her previous life in contrast to her new one in which she finds love, excitement, colour and friends. Lyrically, "Come on people, we have all seen the sunshine We will never get back to To the old school" Basically means once we've tasted happiness and life we'll never look back to the old ways which brought us sadness and despair. The song resonates rebirth and joy of moving forward, that the past is just a faded silhouette, a blurred outline of a longtime ago, that we've come a long way and we will never look back. |
