Kevin Drew – Safety Bricks Lyrics 12 years ago
Feel a little sad reading this. Kevin Drew IS Broken Social Scene. Also there's a whole album that he made with them. "Broken Social Scene Presents Kevin Drew with Spirit If..."

I always thought it was 'In your black bra, in your bedroom, I hope you'll climb in soon'

Stars – Lights Changing Colour Lyrics 13 years ago
I think this song is about Amy joining the band and how they all really came together and clicked as a band. Amy's released a solo album called, "Honey From the Tombs," before she joined Stars, and the Evan Cranley, the bassist of Stars (and Amy's husband) worked on it with her as well. Although it's sung by Amy, I don't think it's from her point of view; I think it's more the voice of the band coming together and speaking about this amazing thing they have.

Stars – Calendar Girl Lyrics 13 years ago
Maybe someday I'll be able to listen to this song without crying. Not today, though.
I've always found this song to be about a girl who's just been left by someone she really loves and tries to commit suicide. She's not successful, and when she wakes up again, she realizes how beautiful the world is, and starts to get better.
If I am lost for a day

Try to find me
But if I don't come back
Then I won't look behind me
All of the things that I thought were so easy
Just got harder and harder each day

Her lover has already left her, and her depression is already strengthened enough that she can't see a way back to happiness. She's lost but can't turn to anyone for help to guide her back.

December is darkest
In June there's no light
But this empty bedroom won't make anything right
And out on the landing
A friend I forgot to send home
Who waits up for me all through the night

The months pass and get increasingly difficult and painful. Friends wait for her to get better, but she can't bring herself to find the light.

Calendar girl
Who's in love with the world
Stay alive
Calendar girl
Who's in love with the world
Stay alive

I dreamed I was dying
As I so often do
And when I awoke
I was sure it was true

This is the stanza where she kills herself. Dreaming that she's dead, she's unconscious and very close to death, hanging in the balance. But she wakes up and is alive.

I ran to the window
Threw my head to the sky
And said whoever is up there
Please don't let me die

She's slowly getting better, she realizes how close she came to losing out on every beautiful thing ever and regrets it, wants to be invincible and never come so close to dying again.

And I can't live forever
I can't always be
One day I'll be sand on the beach by the sea
The pages keep turning
I'll mark off each day with a cross
and I'll laugh about all that we've lost

She realizes again that never dying is silly, everyone has to die someday, and resolves to always appreciate the beauty and amazing things in the world and laugh until her life ends

Calendar girl
Who is lost to the world
Stay alive
Calendar girl
Who is lost to the world
Stay alive

January, February, March, April, May, I'm alive.
June, July, August, September, October, I'm alive.
November, December, yeah all through the winter
I'm alive
I'm alive

The last verse, Torq and Amy sing it together, they seem almost surprised to be alive, like they just figured out that they had made it this far and the momentum will keep them going. It ends joyfully.
