Great Song.\n\nThe first four verses are the grandson\'s thoughts about his grandfather. The grandfather was a sailor who loved being at sea unrestrained and free, possibly a libertine. \n\nThe next four verses are the thoughts of the grandfather and his sea adventures. However, his sea adventures lead him to tragedy and almost death. \n\nAlmost a broken man, he tries to escape his troubles by alcohol and prostitutes. He learns that they are no panacea. The grandfather realizes he needs to return to his girl, but he needs a "number 2." The number 2 may be a card or chance or two on the dice. \n\nHe gets the "number 2," marries grandma, and lives a happy life. |

| The Doors – Indian Summer Lyrics

Jim is singing about a woman he loves the best, even better than the women he met not only in the summer, but in the Indian Summer, which is longer than a summer. Thus, he is complimenting this woman by asserting that to him it did not matter how many women he saw or met she was the only woman for him. Indian Summer in the context of this song means universal time forever. |

This is one of the most underrated Doors' songs. I don't why it has been overlooked. Grandpa is reflecting on his life and his marriage to his wife, grandma. Grandpa was considering marriage to grandma, but he felt the pull to risk and adventure. He was dissatisfied with the mundane. Therefore, he decided to live like the Prodigal Son on a ship that traveled far and wide. Grandpa lived like a libertine and came close to death. He learned that living a profligate life had little long-term benefits. His plan was to return to grandma. However, he was impecunious. He needed a dollar bill for a "drink," so he could survive. Notwithstanding, he wants to return home. So, he probably resorted to gambling, maybe poker or games of chance. A number five will not allow him to get home; a number two will allow him to return home to marry grandma. Land Ho means leaving home and returning home. Grandpa's advice to his grandson: stay home and live right. |

The Word is love refers to John Chapter 1. In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. (John 1) The Word, according to the apostle John, is Jesus of Nazareth, the Christ. Christ is the human embodiment of love and God Himself. Jesus is the light. His death and resurrection set us free from the penalty of our sin. The penalty is eternal hell. The only Word that is 100% love is God in the form of Jesus Christ. |

| The Doors – Wishful Sinful Lyrics

I will get down to basics. Wishful Sinful is about Creation and the destruction of the earth at the time of Noah by the Flood. When God made the heavens and the earth, as described in Genesis 1, He created water and matter. The Creation before the Fall of Adam and Eve displayed a pure love between God and the human race: this is the wishful crystal. Wishful sinful is the condition of the relationship between God and the human race after the Fall. Men and women are inherently sinful. "Water covers everything in blue" refers to the destruction of the earth at the time of Noah. "Can't escape the blue" means that the human race cannot escape destruction because of its rebellion against God. "I know where I would like to be right back where I came" refers to the sinless relationship between God and the human race. "Our love is beautiful see" is also about the sinless relationship between God and the human race. I believe Robbie Krieger wrote the lyrics to this song. "Magic rising" is the alternative to a pure relationship with God. However, "magic rising" is not enough for men and women, who need God. Unlike Jim Morrison, Robbie thought about things other than sex, drugs, death, and alcohol. |

The "Word" refers to Jesus of Nazareth, the Christ, in the Gospel of John. Jesus is referred to as the Word in Chapter 1. Jesus is "love" in Chapter 3 for dying for sinners, and He is the "Light" of men. Why else would the Beatles name the song "The Word?" John the Apostle writes that in the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. The Word, Jesus, is "good." Christians are directed to "spread the word" of the Gospel. [The Beatles had more on their minds than drugs, alcohol, and fornicating.] |
