Procol Harum – Conquistador Lyrics 13 years ago
That is a fabulous interpretation.Templors were also thought to have left secret clues to treasues or religious artifacts , 'Maze to Unwind'. Another person mentioned also that Conquistadors were into finding mystical 'cities of gold' and so on. I think the 'Maze to unwind' was trying to find a reason why the good knight had to die and feeling that it was all for not.

& vinegar .
I could see no maze to unwind … ?
I Like Carl Tuckers explanation too about conquistadors and exploring. Could also mean that he does not understand the meaning or reason of why he had to die or the waist of a good man. To him maybe he sees no legendary story to derive from this waist.
Also like to give out praise to the questioner at SongMeanings who wrote under the name : My opinion
‘The Templars were jeered by the contemporary royal subjects of France when they were discredited’.
I am glad to see those who admire this song as much as me.

Many lovers of this song on the internet but many question the words 'Only all' and 'No Maze to unwind".
The lyrics are great even if amorphous.
And as the gloom begins to fall
I see there is no, only all,
And though you came with sword held high
You did not conquer, only die :
Only all.. ?
I am not the great Reid so I can only speculate:
Like one questioner wrote it should have been aureole (a halo or cloud of angels) but I think the answer lies in the lyrics just before and after the line ,’(as the gloom begins to fall’), as the feeling of sadness and remorse comes down on me, I see there is no ,nothing left , (all or nothing, no prisoners taken, he risked everything). You did not conquer only die.
I don’t believe they are mocking the chivalry but admiring the gumption or lust for life of those who go into the world full of spit
