I agree with all of your interpretations except for the last two set of lines, I don't think they are laughing despite being tailed by the police, I think they are unaware and it is happening in parallel to them laughing. For the last set of lines I think Control for smilers can't be bought suggests he is in a mental facility and is just constantly smiling, no one can cure insanity is what the can't be bought refers to. The solar garlic is probably a reference to marijuana or maybe something else and its rotting symbolizes the narrator's life of recreation is over. He then asks himself if this is what he really wanted and then by saying maybe so and maybe not either confirms his insanity or suggest maybe what we call insane is actually enlightened, or maybe it is not, its just insane. That is what I see. |
