| It hasn't really been unchanged. They started off very heavy, with more of a metal sound. They mellowed out quickly and kept that sound for a while, with more of a hard rock feel, then started trending more towards a bluesy-rock sound, with the zenith of that, being "From Beale Street to Oblivion." They stripped the sound down, more recently and went back to the hard rock sound, but they can get their blues on, occasionally, like with the Pig Town Blues Single. Their music has changed, but not drastically. That change is important. Plus, they have the Bakerton Group, which is Clutch, but strictly instrumental. It's more of a blues-rock-jazz sort of sound, so they can do that sort of thing, without alienating their rock fans. | |

There's a couple of pretty good and in-depth interpretations. One glaring over-sight I'd like to add is for the line "Gideon is knocking in your hotel while you slumber." The organization that ensures every hotel/motel room in all of the United States has a Bible is Gideon International. That is at least part of the meaning of that lyric. |

| I'm not familiar enough with the Doctor Who series to really dissect the song well, but I know enough about it to be able to tell that it's about that. Word like time lord, Dalek, it has something to do with the Doctor Who series. | |

| The whole Lateralus Album from Tool follows a similar theme. Or at least, that's what I found in it. Maybe I found it just because I needed it. | |

He was a soldier in London in WW2. Saw a beautiful woman and perhaps tried to save her during a bombing raid, but he was hit by shrapnel. "Struck down by a vision of beauty Said I was struck down by a long legg'd archer" Sees a beautiful woman "Oh the city was hot, but my blood ran cold Oh, the city went dark, keep calm and carry on." It was a hot night, but an impending sense of doom overcame him. The bombing started and the city went dark. He was scared, but remembered to 'keep calm and carry on.' I was a young man, only 19 years old. I was a young man so very far away from home. "Enlisted in the Army. Perhaps American, since he was so very far away from home" Ah she got me, struck down, right through the heart, struck down. Ah she shot me, struck down, right through the heart, struck down. "Keep calm and carry on, reefer madness quiets the falling bomb." London's slogan, but perhaps, it helped to keep calm if you were also stoned. "I want to be an old man, damn you, von Braun." He didn't want to die at 19. "I've been laid low by a blinding light. I've been torn asunder by the banshee's wail." The blinding light of a bomb explosion "Ah she got me, struck down, right through the heart, struck down. Ah she shot me, struck down, right through the heart, struck down." Maybe he risked his life to save a beautiful woman in the raid and was hit in the chest with shrapnel. Just a guess. Could be that there was no woman, or no bombing raid in London, or a little of both. |
