I'm decently sure that this song is a comment on religion. I think it starts describing a man who's realized the faults of his religion and is realizing the time he wasted on( please note it's not singling out a specific religion) then the "when we fall we will fall together, no one will catch us, we'll catch ourselfs" is saying we don't need religion to support us so long as we have each other, I believe this is not just meant as "as long as we have friends/family's/lovers" but also "as long as we have a person who gives us purpose", I say this because the video for this song depicts two pirates chasing each other around the globe, they're not friends but without each other there would be no point of life for them, they have become each others purposes. To sum it all up i believe it is saying to live in the now rather than focus on what comes after you die. |

So the music has alot to do with how this song ties into "Rape Me" which is of the same topic. They are both in the same key, yet this song (which is from Gerald Friends point of view) is calm and slow and light, while "Rape Me" (from Pollys view) is harsh and insane and horrifying. This shows how the songs are about the same event but points out the view that each person involved took. |
