The song is clearly about his failing business opportunities. After opening a small time business, Jermaine watched as it crumbled to the ground, however he fails to be able to comprehend this, and instead misinterprets the situation, and warps is to fit his believes. Explaining the lyric "I know what your trying to say girl, your saying 'AW YEAH THATS IT!'" The "girl" being his business because he loved it as if it were his wife. |

The song is about his abusive addiction to drugs. He knows they are bad and evil and he hates them so much, but he cant live without them and he "loves" them in the sense that he cant imagine a way to live without them. If you read the lyrics you can realize that it doesn't actually mention a physical person. At the time of the song he was getting through Rehab and he wrote this song (and many others) in response to his addiction. |

So, much like a lot of other people on here, I agree (after researching) that this song is a reference to his drug addiction and his struggles through rehab. However, what I feel is missing in these explanations is what makes him an "animal" Aside from using the term animal to mean a beast and a monster, also think about how he acts like he NEEDS his drugs, as if an animal were to need water. He would do literally anything for it, and he is willing to put aside morals and believes to become more of an animal, and losing control of his more human free will and aspirations. Becoming something that to him is unrecognizable, and heart wrenching, as he screams from inside the cage of his mind. |
