I seem to recall EC calling this an "ABBA imitation." I certainly hear it in the piano parts. Costello is so eclectic musically; this is pretty much sui generis among his recordings, though, to my ear, any track where Steve Nieve plays a lot of percussive piano comes within hailing distance. |

For some time I thought 16 and 8 referred to the number of apples in the "bobbing for apples" game in the previous line. It's hard to see what else the numbers would refer to in that immediate context. Then it dawns on you that 16 and 8 definitely have a specific association with one another when the subject is movies. I never thought about the numbers also relating to age. You went one layer deeper than I ever got! |
