Athlete – It's Not Your Fault Lyrics 13 years ago
You're on the right track, but it's more of a figurative sense. He's stating that their relationship had hit a point of no return. Like a car crash, she's dead emotionally and romantically with him, but he's still "alive". She's moved on (especially with the dancing up to her bedroom part meaning she's been sleeping with other men), but he hasn't. He's tried to reconcile, but now he's realized that he just needs to let her go because he can't "save her".

Now that's deep. I didn't even even see it that way until now. You're right on point.

The Love Language – Pedals Lyrics 13 years ago
Such a beautiful, sad, sad song. And the lyrics are so metaphoric and poetic. I believe it's about a man talking to his ex-girlfriend, reminiscing about their past time together, the up and downs and realizing that's it's now over. Their time was just a season, but he still loves her and thinks of her, even though his heart grrew cold after their parting. But in the end, he still needs her for closure.

The cougar to the cub. Haha.

Cursive – Northern Winds Lyrics 13 years ago
Oh and with the faith and insurance policies part, I believe he's being cynical with today's society's thinking of how when something's broken instead of fixing it we just replace it. I'm sure he's saying that he never really believed in that way of thinking until now.

Cursive – Northern Winds Lyrics 13 years ago
kisots is on point with this one. But I must say, I always see rock songs pertaining to a woman. I believe that Tim is talking about building a relationship and foundation with a woman. "Northern winds" can be anything that comes in their way to help tear their "house" down. Be it other men, other women, finances, boredom, etc. And Tim is saying that as much as we wants to keep "building" and rebuilding the foundation with his woman, after so much patching up he feels like saying fuck it.

Bloc Party – Letter to My Son Lyrics 13 years ago
Another really sad song from the "Intimacy" album. I fucking love it. Without a doubt, it's about a young father feeling regret for abandoning his baby and his mother. But I believe that instead of him stating this while his son is still in the mother's womb, I believe that the son has already been born and is more than likely either an infant or toddler. Also, I believe he's saying "easy fit" instead of "easy thing", "wanted" instead of "wanton", and "Austin" instead of "Oscar".

Heavens – Annabelle Lyrics 13 years ago
Actually, I believe it is "lies". If you listen closely, you'll hear a "s" at the end just before "To bring you". I used to think it was "light" too. But lies does fit better with the song, in terms of his relationship with Annabelle being based on lies pertaining to how she really felt about him.

Heavens – Annabelle Lyrics 13 years ago
I fucking love this heartbreak song. I believe Skiba is talking about Annabelle, his ex-girlfriend, and how he wants them to get back together so much. But during his mourning process, he thinks about the relationship as a whole with the good and the bad and realizes that she's not worth gettting back with. She's better off left alone, or least still feeling "alone" with someone else. I love how some of Skiba's loveworn songs end with him saying "Fuck it." Lol.

Heavens – Another Night Lyrics 13 years ago
From what I take from this song, I believe it's about a couple that moved to new town/city. After spending some time there, they find the place boring and uneventful. For fun and fullfillment, the couple (upon the girlfriend's request) reach out by meeting some people from town and invitethem (men and women) to their home for a house party. After the new "friends" get there, it's revealed that they had bad intentions. The men beat up the boyfriend half to death and rape the girlfriend. They then leave the house to burn up afterward. Hence, "They left you with nothing, And left me for dead, 'Went out and lost your senses, 'Went out and lost my head." The lyrics could be more figurative and metaphoric than that, but this is just my take on it. Either way, it's a pretty fucked up story.

Heavens – Counting Lyrics 13 years ago
This has got to be the most treacherous alternative rock song I've ever heard,...but I love it! "My knife wants to hide deep inside of you." are some psychotic lyrics that Cradle Of Filth would use, but Skiba makes it so artistic to the point where it's talent. The song is obviously about a man murdering a woman, but going deeper it seems like he invites his ex-girlfiend to his place (possibly to try again with their relationship) and plans to interrogate and kill her. "Take this back, I'm counting on you." I believe is Skiba saying that he wants her to take back all of the negative things she said/did and take him back. But really, I believe he's already made his up mind he's gonna take her life anyway. Like I said, diabolical but artistic.

Heavens – Heather Lyrics 13 years ago
This song is very deep. I love how Skiba's lyrics may seem a bit comical, yet cynical at face value, but when you truly think about it they are deep, metaphoric, and sad. It took my ex-girlfriend dumping me recently for me to see "Heather" more clearly. When Skiba says "I've got a feeling you're busy painting children in death and decay, Maybe you went to get provisions, Or off to find new scissors, Maybe you're busy taking pictures up in the cemetary.", he's saying that Heather feels that doing all of those things are more important and/or interesting than talking to him. Now that's deep. ...And very sad.

Film School – Two Kinds Lyrics 13 years ago
I agree, but I believe the "one we used to know" is a past love. Platonic, Romantic, and past love. His love interest reminds him of the ones he lost. And he fears she might be another to the list.

Editors – Like Treasure Lyrics 13 years ago
This is the best song on the album. I believe it's about a lost love that he met again, but feel or sees nothing in her. He buried that part of her deep inside him, intentionally to keep like a "treasure". But he buried her so deep, he can't feel anything for her. He used to be her "shadow".

Editors – From The Outside Lyrics 13 years ago
The saddest song from Editors. I believe it's about a woman leaving her man, wanting to feel free I guess hence the "You'll be fine, you need to discover." But maybe after letting him go, she'll realize she truly misses him. But I believe it "we heal" instead of "we're here".

The Fire Theft – Waste Time Lyrics 13 years ago
One of my favorite sad songs. It's obviously about an ill fated relationship, but it's still very deep. I can really relate to this song, after having my heart broken a few times. And the "We didn't know the future, but we did what was right." line is chilling. And it's so true. None of us are 100% things will or won't ultimately work out, but yet we still leave.

The Fire Theft – Summertime Lyrics 13 years ago
This is a very deep, poetic song. Jeremy is basically talking about marriage ("Lift back the veil that hides you and me") and postponing it for later time. As a fiance with his marriage due in the summer (as a lot of marriages are), he's still clinging to the bachelor life "roaming". He wants to marry his fiance, but wants to enjoy his life free a while longer before doing so. Hence the line "Lift back the veil that hides you and me, some other time"

Interpol – Leif Erikson Lyrics 13 years ago
Okay, so can you explain the "so that you two can take some time, teach each other to reciprocate" part? Who's he talking about, her boss? It's obviously her boyfriend/lover/husband/whatever. And all of Interpol's songs have deep meanings.

Interpol – Leif Erikson Lyrics 13 years ago
God, I got goosebumps when they played this song live. Anyways, my interpretation of this song is about Paul seeing a shallow, materialistic woman who's kinda in/out of a relationship with her boyfriend/ex/whatever. "The clock is set for nine, but you know you're gonna make it eight. So that you two can take some time, teach each other to reciprocate." He's obviously saying that she wants to get back to her other man in time to work things out. "She says brief things her love's a pony, my love's subliminal." says it all. She's obviously an emotionally distant woman (not necessarily young) and Paul's very deep when it comes to love, yet he still really likes her and wants to continue pursuing her. I love the "if you don't bring up those lonely parts this could be a good time" line. "You come here to me. We'll collect those lonely parts and set them down." He's saying he's grateful that she's there with him and wants her to relax and feel comfortable with him. When she's distant, it reminds him she's not that into him.

Minus the Bear – Pachuca Sunrise Lyrics 13 years ago
I fucking love this song. Anyways, I believe Jake is on a business trip/vacation/touring whatever and wishes his lady was there with him, but she's back home. He wishes he could bring the night there with her so that she could experience the great time with him as well.

Longwave – Wake Me When It's Over Lyrics 13 years ago
This is the first song I heard from them and have been in love since. Bands like Longwave, Grizzly Bear, and The Bravery show that not only rappers come from Brooklyn. Anyways, it's a pretty sad song when you think about it. He's basically saying that he's lost interest with his lady and just wants her to leave cause he doesn't want to himself. "All the things you knew for sure were not what they seemed" means his lady thought everything was alright with them, when they really weren't. "When all the noise is gone, anything you want, I will give away, just to watch you go" says it all. He's saying he'll give her whatever she wants just as long as she leaves him the fuck alone. Basically what Bobdatech said.

I agree. I think that's what he's saying too.

Longwave – Life of the Party Lyrics 13 years ago
Pretty deep song. I believe he's saying he's very attached to his girlfriend and that going out without her doesn't feel right. He's not himself and gets wasted to cope with not being out with her, just waiting for the time when he can do it again. I guess I see it this way cause I've been there.

This has got to be the best song I've ever heard from them. ...In competition with "After The Movies". But I've gotta agree with Sean2458. I believe it's about young love, but the woman is older. The young man has been hurt before and she's gotta take her time with him.

Cursive – After the Movies Lyrics 13 years ago
Aww. That's sad. I believe he was thinking of his ex-wife. I feel pretty bad now cause I just saw them play recently, spoke with Tim after the show, and told him I was hoping they could've played "After The Movies". He smiled and said, "Yeah, I'm sure a lot of people wanted to hear it." He was real cool and down to earth.

Cursive – After the Movies Lyrics 13 years ago
This has got to be the saddest loveworn song I've ever heard. "Are you glad I'm finally gone?" is the saddest line ever. It's obviously about Tim reminiscing about his ex, how he recalled such a memorable moment with her in the parking lot after watching a movie. "One night is forever" he means that it was that moment that will always be in his heart because it's the moment they connected. "Are you glad I'm finally gone? I'm so sorry to hear that. Have I hurt you?" He's crying out to her. "I have hurt myself" so deep. He felt that his faults (if there really were any. A lot of the time, we feel at fault after breakups) caused her to leave, which hurts him deeply. "Love as fragile as a wine glass, it should've been forever." he's saying that he, and she, should've handled the relationship better, cherished it more, not have taken it for granted, and stay with each other and work things out. Cursive writes such deep songs, but I must say that this is the strongest and most touching. I can relate after having my heart broken a few times.

Eerily, it sounds like they're speaking from the POV of Natalie Holloman's killers. But what's weird is that I believe they recorded this before her disappearance. Tthat'sThat
