I think it's easy to interpret the surface meaning here that running away will never solve your problems. You need to face them head on and deal with them, because it's impossible to outrun them. It's also saying that you need to be honest, not just with others, but with yourself. People are the same everywhere you go. That's very clear just from the chorus. The whole song is revolving around human relationships. The interpretation I get is that you need to be able to share your insecurities, doubts, negative thoughts and feelings, etc. as well as all the good ones. You will never have a meaningful relationship with anyone if all you ever share are the good parts of yourself. You aren't being honest with others, and you aren't being true to yourself if you just push away all your bad feelings and skip town as soon as your doubts start to show. Marrying someone you barely know and swearing your love isn't going to do any good if you don't make any other promises; if you don't confide in that person, tell them your deepest and darkest. I think so far most people have nailed that part on the head, but let's go a little deeper than that.... The real question to be answered here is: WHY WOULD SOMEONE RUN AWAY AS SOON AS THEIR DOUBTS BEGIN TO SHOW?? I don't think this is just about running away from problems... but it's about the fear of getting hurt by others; the fear of letting other people get too close. It's a story about shutting people out, because you're so afraid that if they get to know you to your core, they will use your weaknesses against you. So as soon as you feel like you've slipped up and your doubts have shown through despite your efforts to keep someone at a distance, you split town so as not to get hurt. It's like when you hear a rumor that you're significant other is going to break up with you, so you protect yourself by making sure you break up with them first. Option one is to be closed off and run away to protect yourself from getting hurt when your weaknesses show. You will never be happy this way. Option two is to be honest, and show your doubts to others. You could and probably will make some amazing friends, lovers, a second family if you will. Yes, you will get hurt in that process. However, it is better to be hurt and run to someone you can trust for comfort, than it is to never let yourself have the opportunity to make meaningful relationships. The moral of the story here is that if you are constantly on the defense, you are never going to be happy. You will keep pushing people away, and continue to run. But if you let your guard down, there is a chance you might get hurt, but it is totally worth the possibility that you might make some of the best friendships and loves that you could never even imagine. Many women do go into porn by choice, but so do men. I don't think that's really the point he's getting to. Women are objectified more than men are in the grand scheme of things. In television shows, the women are always beautiful and then men are more often than not average. As far as women having more freedom than men.... where do you get that idea from? Men still get paid more, the only "female dominated" industries have to do with finance, health, and communications. Who do you think dominates the beauty and fashion industries? MEN. Most rape cases are the result of a male offender attacking another person. If a woman sleeps around the way a man does, she is a whore, not a stud. Anyhow, I don't think PTH is talking about prostitution or porn, they're talking about women having sex because they feel pressured to. Kezia submits to losing her virginity because society tells her that it is the only way she will ever get what she wants. A man is more likely to give a woman something (money, food, shelter) she needs for having sex with him, as opposed to giving it to her because she is a human who is in need These are the inequalities I think PTH is addressing. If you can name 3 things women have the freedom to do than men do not, I'll be very surprised. |
