this song is simply about the fact that everybody knows about fatality but we are all pretending or being foolish we know that random isn't fair (dices), we know that desire may eclipse love for a night or two, we know that being straight and honest is gonna make us lose, we know things will always get worst (poor stay poor), we know we're all going to die, we know they're lying, we all care this anxiety deep inside, we're all thinking about ourself first (talking to their pockets may refer to money or simply a "talk to myself"), we all want those silly things (box of chocolate), we all know how irreversible life is and we all measure that (its now or never) i really like this part "Everybody knows that the naked man and woman Are just a shining artifact of the past" for me it's about humanity in general. that sexuality is just about having children. from time to time we're having sex and then we die. every generation does that, so from this point of view, being naked with someone is very odd and we do that since ever and it's old and common and at last this part "Everybody knows it's coming apart Take one last look at this Sacred Heart Before it blows" i'm not sure but it feels like we are all becoming monsters and he says to his wife to enjoy his last part of kindness before it gets to bitterness also this song is really really kind to his unfaithfull friend but the bitter taste of the whole lyrics and his resignation shows that he will soon not care at all first you're jealous, then you're not that jealous anymore because you feel empathy and you can understand the person by relating to your own weakness and then you don't love the person anymore because she's as weak as you and you discovered it and she's just a burdain now |

Those short lyrics punched me and that's why i came here But i have a different interpretation than yours I think he feels the kind of humiliation and shame you have when you realize how poor your choices and decisions were in the past he's struggling with doubts and shame about himself and then realize that things are repeating (sometimes i feel like i haven't learned anything) and it's his own fault because he didn't work on his bad behavoiur/thoughts |
