Dee Dee is mentioning the times when he whored himself and most likely had to deal with guys who were family men during the day and at night would pay young guys for sex (Artificial phonies I hate it, hate it). Look up Wayne County (now Jayne County), she was one of the seminal punk performers and a n influence on the Ramones. Oh, she's transgendered, been like that for a long time. Marky Ramone, as Marc Bell, was the drummer for Wayne County's band, Wayne County and the Backstreet Boys, before he was in the Ramones. |

There's a definite style here that says Jpey lyrics (slightly upbeat) and not Dee Dee. Dee Dee lyrics are generally simpler but deeper. This is another Joey love song. |

Small correction, pretty clear when you hear Joey:
Broadway, Fifty Nine
Not your typical Joey upbeat song, but I can understand he felt like he was going to die on the backseat of that NYC cab, what's upbeat about that? |

| Ramones – I Won't Let It Happen Lyrics

If anything, I love the tempo changes throughout the song. Typical Joey song, pretty upbeat.
It's a love song about a guy in love, he wants to make it work between his girl and him, and whatever some other girl said (the things she said, well, maybe they're true) won't stand between him and his love. |

| Ramones – Main Man Lyrics

|
This song is about a man who doesn't take shit from no one (I don't care what people think), lives a fast lifestyle (when I start movin' you see a blur), dodges death (I always been able to laugh at fate), etc.
You could go on and on, but this is about a tough guy, it's pretty much how Dee Dee saw himself, it's very autobiographical. |

| Ramones – It's Gonna Be Alright Lyrics

I like this song for the simple fact that is a song they dedicated to their fans, the Ramones never got big or rich in their home country, but their fans where everywhere and made their day. That made it all worthwhile.
The lyrics are typical Joey lyrics, upbeat and fun. |

It's my favorite album from the Ramones later phase, many great songs here. Poison Heart, Strength to Endure...
Johnny was a perfectionist, and since perfection is nearly impossible to achieve he was constantly disappointed. This trait of his personality shows throughout the band's history. It was good for the band at times, bad at others... |

Correction:
Now I think I'll pick my nose
Wipe it on my sweaty clothes
I love singing this to the top of my lungs when I drive to work. Wakes me up in the morning. I also think it's an excellent lead in to Strength to Endure, almost as if the lyrics lead to each other... |

Mondo Bizarro is such a good album, definitely the best of the Ramones later phase. And then this song tops it off! Truly excellent.
Dee Dee at his best in lyric writing; even if you never been down the dangerous and sad road that Dee Dee been through you can feel it in this song.
Joey's vocals that sing as if the song was about him, singing this song with him makes me cry.
Johnny by then was a true master guitarrist and it shows
Marky on the drums, what can you say, he's Marky! No one marked tempo for this legendary punk band like him.
And then there is CJ as the new bassist that breathed young blood into the band without diluting its legacy.
I love this album and I really really love this song. |

AWESOME SONG, definitely one of my favorites! Always gets me rocking, and in a mood to listen to the Ramones. So much energy!
Lyrics correction, if you listen to Greatest Hits Live it's quite clear when Joey sings it:
"Under the arc of a weather stained board" small correction, but makes more sense. |

Very 60's surf band feeling on this song. Very catchy and a nice extra track. Not Dee Dee lyrics, but more fun-times Joey stuff. Great anyway! |

One of many Ramones songs that makes me cry!
"But I don't love you anymore
What do you want to talk to me for?
You should have just let me walk by"
Now being married for eight years it makes me think of marriage... I love my wife but sometimes she seems like the girl in this song, so far away...
"Memories make us cry" <-- that's the reminder of how it was when we first married... |

It's pretty clear that this song is about getting wasted on barbs and seeing the crappy world around you turn beautiful. Gotta love Dee Dee lyrics! |

One of the early and few political songs from the Ramones. I love playing this song on the guitar, I go crazy listening to that bass line pumping my fists. Baby baby make me loco! |

When I met Joey Ramone at The Edge in Fort Lauderdale, 20 Apr 1995, I asked him about this song, if it was about him being a nihilist and not caring about things. Joey was very mono-syllabical when I met him, and he just said "Yeah". Then after a pause "especially when I was younger". |

| Tom Waits – I Don't Wanna Grow Up Lyrics
| 13 years ago

I was introduced to this song (but not to Tom Waits who I already knew) by the Ramones. As a 38 year old guy who's been listening to the Ramones since the mid 80s this song sometimes brings me to tears, especially sung with Joey's melodic crooning voice.
It is the tale of a man growing up and wishing he could stay young forever but having to deal with the realities of the world around him. Opening up the medicine chest could be either the medicine that comes with old age (although that's an easy explanation), or more poetically, dealing with suicidal thoughts.
Now that I have heard the Tom Waits version (after the excellent Ramones cover!) and listened to the album I see a lot of songs deal with death, so the medicine chest could well be the easy way out! |

This song is about an old punk girl who used to come to the Ramones shows in the beginnings whose mother was a geek. Shocktreatment77 had it right. |
