I've always though of this song being about when you are losing someone and you are trying to salvage the relationship. The "somewhere only we know" isn't necessarily a place, but more of a feeling. It's the feeling that only you two share. When he says "this could be the end of everything, so why don't we go somewhere only we know" he is saying "if this is the end of our friendship/relationship, then lets take a moment to remember the good parts of it". |

Basically, I think of this being about how he continues to get himself involved with girls who he gives and gives to, that only take from him. He knows that he shouldn't and that it makes him miserable, but he just keeps doing it with girl after girl. |
