It's about a long distance relationship, and the difficulties involved within one of such. Especially when you're trying to break it off. "We, before there was we she only she, me merely me lonely only...in our diaries" A lot of times when you're feeling down, the situation isn't as bad as you make it out to sound in your livejournal, blog, diary, whatever. hence "only in our diaries" "...we were in two halves, we didn't quite match she ground down my corners, " Sometimes when you're in a relationship after awhile you realise that perhaps the other person isn't right for you... yet still you try to make it work, usually by changes yourself into something you aren't really, or perhaps by being changed by someone else, hence the ground my corners part. "kissed me for the foreigners spilling their drinks down the nicest clothes they packed" Yet when you see the person after being apart for so long the passion is there and you soon forget all your difficulties, hence the kissing for the foreigners/terminal at the terminal. Reow. "She's always just inches from me inches on a map, distance or destiny" "calls only calls, cellular fees" These are the two lines that seal it as being about long distance even more then the airport part. These days "long distance" feels a lot closer then it used to, between Internet access and cell phones despite being far away in reality you're still in contact. even if you pay a buttload in cellular fees just "inches" on a map, despite the fact the inches are miles and miles in reality. "I know a dive hiring nights near Japantown" the protagonist of the song on the phone trying to convince his significant other to move closer, hence the vocal filter that sounds like a phone. Probably something like "you should move here, if you need work I know a dive hiring nights..." and probably taken from a real conversation, That was just what I thought, anyway. If you think of it as being about long distance the whole thing makes perfect sense. :) |
