I get where all the comments about heroin are coming from, but to me it is also about sex and pregnancy to be specific. I didn't realize all of the sexual imagery in this song until I was listening to Kim Gordon's audiobook, and she reads the lyrics at the beginning of one of the later chapters. "Love has come to stay in all the way" Need I say more? I mean "in all the way"... "Its gonna stay forever and every day It feels like a wish coming true It feels like an angel dreaming of you Feels like heaven forgiving and getting Feels like we're fading and celebrating" Gonna stay forever sounds like conception/the beginning of a pregnancy, and for a couple trying to have a child conception is a wish coming true. "You got a carnal spirit spraying" Carnal spirit spraying huh? Yeah... "I'm gonna laugh it up You got a cotton crown I'm gonna keep it underground" Semen looks like cotton when it shoots out underwater. Keep it underground, "You're gonna take control of the chemistry And you're gonna manifest the mystery You got a magic wheel in your memory I'm wasted in time and I'm looking everywhere" At it's heart pregnancy is a chemical event, yet it is an ancient mystery that we are still unable to fully understand. |

Many of the comments here have stated that they think the depiction of native people is naive and historically inaccurate. The song was written by Young in high school. He wasn't a historian, he was a poet/songwriter, and a very young one at that. It's a song about innocence being wiped away be violence and it should be listened to without historical context. |
